Since the top blade isn't used for heigth cutting, Ballard should design a much lighter version for the top only that just lifts and mulches. This would address some of the worries about the extra weight.

Just finished a season with the razor/Ripper X blades. I do a lot of leaf cleanups (sole operator). This setup saved me a ton of time. We had a severe hailstorm which brought down a lot of heavy green leaves-especially oak leaves. I mulched them several times and bagged them. The X blade setup was great! I’m a believer!

I have been using the X blades over 4-5 years on all my mowers with no problems. The secret is to lower throttle before engaging PTO and rev up the RPM. Lower the RPM then turn off the PTO. I have used stacked gators in the Fall as well as a Hi-Lif on the bottom with a Gator on top. Either way a game-changer in the Fall.

Once you get your current customers manicured your work will sell itself. Then you can focus on time and eliminating overlap cutting to save fuel and wear on your equipment. Advertise one cut or a contract till do them all. Put that in your trailer and you'll be surprised at how many neighbors will walk up from time to time and just want a cut you can🎉slip in between contract cuts. Learn about tbe dos and donts of different turf varieties as far as esthetics go once cut. Offer a winter contract as well because there are a butt load of people that have never thought about doing that the just let limbs and tree and shrub manicuring hang in limbo then it's a task. My first job ever es cutting for a recreational department for the city I live in. From high school football fields to grave yards the public soect taught me slot and doing baseball fiends well there s whine different animal in their own right. Awesome that you started a business with your son. Thst sir is how you create a legacy your great great grand himden will be apart of long after you're gone. Well done ..

I'm not a lawn pro, but this simple business observation is that they took what Honda has been doing on their twin blade mowers for years and improved on it substantially to make a better product. This happens all the time in the automobile industry. Remember when you had to get spray in bed liners on your truck after it was purchased and now most automakers have it as an option? I think it's the same principle that is going on here and a tip of the hat to a great business idea that apparently makes mowing that much easier in a lot of applications! Great work guys.

@seanrice75113 жыл бұрын
Just adding this for some perspective… the use of 2 ‘lower blades’ (and ditching the flat ‘top’ blade) on an Ego Select Cut 21” mower also made a big difference in quality of cut, bagging and mulching compared to stock setup. Using a high lift plus mulching, off set more than stock offset, can yield great results and only seems to reduce battery runtime some. Even small mowers, as long as they have good power to keep the revs up, benefit from the concept as well.

I just started running the high rise blades. They have a better cut quality that the stock scag blades. They do tend to bog down more in taller grass but they are excellent for regular maintained lawns. Only downfall that I see may arise is that there doesn’t seem to be too much meat in the blades for a long life after sharpening multiple times. I can’t speak to the longevity of the blades just yet though

I recently put the X-Blades on my 52" Wright Stander X with approxamitly 175hrs and within 2 weeks, everytime I disengage the PTO (regardless of following the throttling recommendations) you hear a noise similar to brakes grinding when the pads are worn out and it continues to get worse so it definitely puts stress on parts of the machine! However, I will say that the quality of the cut has gotten better also but if it's at the cost of down time with the machine, I just can't keep using them! I do use a lot of Ballard products and will continue to do so but as for the X-Blades I am going to have to not recommend. With that said, it could just be a coincidence that the noise started right after I put them on (20hrs or so after) but I do feel like the extra blade weight absolutely caused the problem

@@iLLBiLLsRoastBeats I just cut jungles of grass using a walk behind mower. Once I have a new blade, after I get done with one jungle overgrown yard. Im surprised at how dull the blade got. Im no blade sharpening expert. So its easier for me to just replace the blade. I mean 20 bucks for a single 20in blade is pretty cheap. Wish they didn't dull and become damaged so fast. Finding the right blade for the job is one thing. Finding one that is built to last is another.

Great video. Is the X blade not too heavy for push mower?

I got some high rise and it's the softest blade I've run they bend easily and I can straighten it on the vice which is impossible with other blades

I have been running the x blades for 2 years now and I only have one problem with them. When cutting it slings dust out the front and all over me. I get covered in dust every time I cut now. I have a 52 inch Grasshopoer

Was hoping to get blades for my Husqvarna Z248F, but looks like they are not available yet.

3:21 Do you make the Hi Rise blade for Ryobi rechargeable mowers? And why isn't the whole blade sharpened?

That I am not sure, you’d have to email Ballard. For the blade sharpening area, you only really mow with the first 1-2” of the blade, that is why.

What blade fits my Craftsman m 140 (160cc)rear bagger lawn mower? I'm currently using the OEM craftsman blade that does not fill the grass catcher and sucks!

How do you think the X blade setup would run on Gravely ZT HD?

Hey Brian, Good video. Quick question, I have a hustler raptor, 52" , i am trying to mulch, I have used gator blades OEM mulch blades, x-blades in many configurations, they all work well. The problem the mulched grass just lays on top of the lawn, it won't drop in to the canopy. Then there is a haze on the lawn, and everybody tracks grass into the house. Any suggestions. Thanks Brian

Unless you have a mulching kit installed, all mowers will do that with all blades. A true mulching kit is what you'd probably need for that result.
