Great video. Need to also indicate that a broken or worn release bearing can damage the transmission housing extension (AKA "quill" or "snout"). It carves grooves or low areas in the side of the extension and thus prevents proper, smooth clutch operation, even if you replace everything else. Most common in Hondas and Subarus with aluminum housing extensions, less so in Chrysler with steel extensions. Can fix this with a sleeve and oversized release bearing kit or buy a new housing because the extension is cast along with the rest of the housing. When this happens it really sucks!

I understand that excessive pressure on the clutch can cause the throw out bearing to fail. What I don’t understand is why people say that putting a car in neutral and releasing the clutch will cause it to fail as well. Can you shed some light on letting off on the clutch at a red light or when a train is crossing the road taking forever?
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 5 жыл бұрын
GREAT QUESTION! Yeah, that's B.S. That's a good thing to put it in neutral and let the clutch up. Any time the clutch isn't all the way up or down the disc is getting wear like a brake pad does. Any time the clutch pedal has any foot pressure at all- the throw out bearing is getting wear like a wheel bearing does.

We call the a "concentric" slave cylinder or "French export shit." I hate those. The worst part is the stupid hydraulic line (think air bubbles) goes below the frame rail, up and over it, and then below it again before going up the clutch master cylinder. You often have to take the whole system off and bleed the line off the truck, or pressurize the M.C. reservoir with air and push a whole lines worth through to get the air out. I have a video on those on my other channel "theskiviking"

Hi Brian, Thanks for the vid. I have a question for ya. I just changed the clutch on my 93 toyota 4x4 truck. 22re. over 200k miles. When I put it all back together I had a devil of a time installing the slave cylinder because of the residual spring pressure??? Seems like there is no free play between bearing and pressure plate. I have free play at the clutch pedal at top of stroke. I tried a couple of changes to the clutch adjustment rod under the dash. The truck drives and shifts perfectly with clutch engagement about mid point at the pedal. The old throwout bearing was so nice I thought about not changing it but I did anyway. It just doesn't seem right for the slave cylinder to have spring pressure holding the bearing against the Pressure plate. Your thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Later Greg

your friction plate springs look like they were wearing against the flywheel mounting bolts. Is that common? Is that a sign that the clutch friction disk is worn so far that it starts making contact with the bolts? Asking due to one I took out that had that and 1 spring got out of it's holding and was free to bounce around.

hey 2 year old video but if anyone is around to shed light;. I thought I snapped my clutch cable because I suddenly had soft pedal but I'm still actuating the fork. when I get under it I have a convenient inspection plate to get to the end of the fork and can actuate it easily with my finger. is that the pressure plate bad or the throw out broken? it's a little Japanese kei truck so I have been having issues getting used to the tiny space for clutch actuation 😅 I replaced the clutch plate a year ago but that was it, I was in a bind and needed it running for an event

Question, my friction plate wont disengage when pedal is fully depressed. Flywheel, friction plate, pressure plate and concentric slave + bearring are replaced 2 months ago and have done 2500miles with them without any problem. The problem started occuring when a friend of mine launched my car from a standstill and wanted to shift to 2nd. I've checked the shifting mechanism, bleeded but none worked. In first gear with clutch pedal depressed to the floor and accelerating the car creeps forward when close to redline. The slave cylinder moves out instantly when I'm depressing the clutch pedal, also it doesn't slip What i did notice is the level in the clutch resevoir is decreasing when the pedal is depressed and raises again when releasing (no leaks under the car or at the pedal)

@@invadingalien8973 It is a Saab 9-3 from 2000 with a 2.0 Turbo. little update, when in frist gear and pedal fully depressed the car creeps forward when accelerating to about 5500rpm so indeed a clutch that is not disengaging properly. When normal daily driving it does shift noramlish (little bith hard due to the not fully disengaging clutch)

my hydraulic slave cylinder popped out, it damage clutch disc so bad that the clutch separated to the point that its 3 pieces, rear main seal (has a plastic crank sensor holder which separated from seal). Had to replace clutch kit, rear main seal, slave cylinder and this happened out of nowhere without symptoms while driving. you wake up bill free and go to sleep huge bill lol

what can cause a noise front some gears and not on 4th gear
@vincentmeichtry3468
@vincentmeichtry3468 Жыл бұрын
What if the noise goes away in fourth gear but is in all other gears? Fourth locks the main shaft and bypasses the lower counter shaft thus bypasses those lower bearings. So one or both lower counter bearings could be bad.

I have a 2009 model Hyundai i10 which has a cable clutch system . The clutch pedal was really hard to press so I gave it to local mechanic and he said clutch is gone, need to change it so I told him to do so. After 2-3days of clutch + pressure plate + throw out bearing change the pedal again started to get harder, only when the car is warm, when the car is cold pedal will be smooth. Anyone know what the issue might be?

Had a new clutch put in… changed the master and slave a month later.. since then I can’t get into first Gear or R from a stop.. if I rev the car while pressuring for 1st gear it will fall in.. or if I hold the pedal for 5-6 seconds it will fall into gear… I’m convinced it’s air in the system being introduced somehow.. but I’ve tried bleeding 101 different ways.. always seem to have air in the system.. never let the master empty.. garage wants a new clutch… I’m convinced it’s air… thoughts?

The input shaft is rotation with the speed of the crankshaft, when you try to put a car in gear what happens?, your hear a grinding in gears meaning your input shaft is still rotating at or below the speed of the crank making it difficult for the shift forks to mesh onto the main shaft but eventually if you force it enough it takes the gear. Hence you have a problem of the pressure plate and/or release bearing or fork failure because your clutch disk is being fully disengaged. Since your saying you've bled a million times

@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 Жыл бұрын
In your case it's likely a hydraulic leak in the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder such that it won't disengage. A clutch failure with slipping is when the clutch disc is too thin or the pressure place is worn out.
