I would frequently visit this mall with my Brother and Sister when I was a little boy. Holidays and whenever we wanted to hang out at the mall. I used to live in Ypsilanti, Michigan and the mall was always the place to go because everybody always went to the mall especially when they had a movie theater. It's where I saw a lot of great movies during the 80's. I had a lot of great memories. 😎

I was just here last week. And for the past several years while it has traffic I keep getting the vibe of dying mall based on the kinds of stores that are popping up there in addition to many several empty store fronts.

Ahh this was my childhood mall, thanks for the nice walk down memory lane. Really wish i could revisit this place with its pre 2003 architecture. It had such a wonderful secluded, almost cave like atmosphere; with strange sunken seating pits, and a large water fountain in the center concourse. Cheers!

Maybe with the closing of Sears they can bring back a movie theater.

My youth was spent at Briarwood being overcome by all the beautiful girls that I wanted and all the merchandise that I wanted . . . Quite overwhelming actually . . .

It's nice to see unlike some of the other Simon malls out there, that you can still see the Taubman touches of its typical look still at that mall. And I do wonder if any vintage pics are floating online out there somewhere, of what that sunken seating area you walk through at 5:15 used to look like years ago? Great video, and I'm glad this mall is still doing well to this day! Hope they are able to fill the Sears vacancy, regardless if that's splitting up the Sears into 2 different anchor spaces, or whatever is ultimately done to take care of that issue. I guess that may come down to whatever Seritage wants to do, with leasing that property to some other tenant? And am I right in thinking all the anchor stores at this mall are just 1 story, or are any of them 2 stories?

There is some vintage pics on google, showing the center area, it actually had some really ornate fountains! And the von Maur is two story, I’m not sure about the penny’s. Thanks for watching!!

@@JohnCassity Thanks for responding. And you're welcome, since I like watching all the various mall exploration channels out there on youtube. I also like the non-mall urbex exploration videos you've done, as well. I will do a search, to see what vintage pics of Briarwood Mall I do find.

I believe the Penny's was also two stories if memory serves. Im also really hoping i can find some vintage pics of this place. So many great memories in those sunken pits!

Love the skylights here, the rest of the design is fairly bland.
