What is the purpose of the spacing between the brick and the structural wood frame? So it doesn’t compromise the support?
@joeyager84794 ай бұрын
Brick isn't waterproof. Water vapor can penetrate thru and condense in the inside of the brick. The space allows the water to fall down to the weep holes and flow out. Yhe space also prevents the condensation from coming into contact with the wood framing and causing rot.

no weep holes in structural brick?

Is it similar to claddings ?

Thanks for watching nd taking the time to ask a question! I believe its similar in some aspects. There would obviously be different construction applications

Changing windows in a brick veneer house looks like one Hell of a job.

I agree Glad I dont have to do it lol Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment

It actually isn't much different than any other. The windows are attached to the wood framing. The window trim is then caulked where it butts against the brick.

Great video! Can you tell if the brick is veneer by the pattern on the outside of the building? Like say for instance one long brick, then a header brick then another long brick, header, etc? Lol I wish I could show you a picture....😁 Basically in the Flemish Bond style

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! The easiest way I know to tell the difference is by looking for the weep holes. If no weep holes then it is most likely veneers Super simple lol

@@thebowtiebreakdown Excellent I will check immediately thank you for responding 😃! And Happy Father's day as well! I am working in the insurance industry and those details come in handy to understanding if a building is frame or joisted masonry 😉 Thanks again!

What is solid brick? Where is the actual sample of each? Are the thicknesses the same?
@thebowtiebreakdown10 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. As stated in my first sentence of the video, brick veneer is not structural and usually consists of 1 layer of brick. Whereas solid brick walls are usually 2 layers of brick or one layer of brick backed by cinder blocks The solid brick wall is structural and supports the building. Again brick veneer is not structural and does not support the structure. Its more visual than anything. I believe theres no difference in the size of the bricks. It depends on the construction. If its a double layer and supports the structure then its considered solid brick. If one layer as shown in the video its brick veneer. I hope that answers your questions. In hindsight I def should've included a sample of solid brick construction
