Very nice Budd. My grandfather was a bricklayer for 55 years, reluctantly retired at 70. Its like watching him work again, very good! Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the video... I have 2 questions: 1. I have always wondered. Why do you spread the mortar in the middle before laying a brick? does it not leave a cavity between the brick and mortar after you lay it? and 2. What is the purpose of a "frog" and does it face up or down?

@@BuildingwithBudd Got me logs yesterday. Chaos 😁 . Both grown up granddaughters decided to come across and help out moving and storing. Lounge turned into a kindergarten. 6 yr old and 4 yr old siblings bickering and a 14 month old who is a crawling, screaming phenomenon. 😱

I know this might be obvious for experienced ones, but getting that line horizontal, having something to attach it to, getting the right height, knowing where to start from aka edges first or one side? (here you started from the middle), knowing if you'll end up with 1/3 of a brick at the edge vs 1/2?

Nice work, actually looks better when the joints are not precisely above one another, gives it a "hand-made" look rather than seeming made by a robot. Now if only we can breed-up some British brickies. I can't find a builder, they are too busy and say there are no brickies available, so they tell me. Come on lads, especially school-leavers, the money is good, it's a seller's market. Better than wasting your time going to university to end up in a call-centre.

How do you make a mortar so creamy, sticky and workable? It just look like cream😅 I did some brick work on my house with premix mortar and it was ok to work with but it never had that texture and consistency.
