Think I'd personally make the boardwalk shorter and stop it at the canal, then there's one less bridge to worry about. More room for the nice looking rocks in the area the other side of the canal.

yeah, I agree. I think the boardwalk is way to big, it should end before the rocky beach. And this way it will be one less bridge, and more off a view point for the boats do enter in the canal. Also would consider increasing a bit the rocky beach and a small walking access from the right side of the train line. Great VLOGS, and great city is on the way, congrats on the work!

The board walk is uninteresting. This should be prime estate with a beach, huts, Venice beach boardwalk etc. Theres a tiny version so far that fit well with the basement but looks tiny in the new city. Though I appreciate you'd be working on one area for weeks in this case.

On the topic of the canal, I think you should revert your design to those low arches, and instead do 5x of them side by side with water going underneath. No need to make space for boats or anything to actually fit through. I think everyone is stuck on the idea of big wide arches & adding height, but multiple small ones will work just fine. Good luck and take some time to ponder it before reconstruction!
@Cardogenic
@Cardogenic 5 ай бұрын
I agree I think the canal should be fed from the mountain and the area under the road, train track, and boardwalk is just for run off (theoretically controlled by dams or locks). Either the low arches or a series of pipes. Most of the arch or pipe would be below water level relieving the need for bridges. The canal would be for small tourism related boats. A river behind the campground could be made for fishing boats and jet skis with a public boat ramp.

Personally, I would consider lowering the water. Yes, It's a lot of work but would be the best solution long term. I'd also reroute the train behind the first block of bulidings so the bridges aren't so close together. Although that might not be an issue if the water was lower.

Hi Bricksie! I really think the train grade starting near the rocks is a great idea. Also, when I saw you making the train bridge, I was a bit confused with your brick choice. I don't fully understand how Lego trains work, but it seems like you could make the train go up only 3 blocks instead of 4 using the same arches (please try this when you expand the bridge as you will have even less space of the left side). As a final thought, I'm sure the road bridge will look much better and won't stick out like a sore thumb when the rest of the city behind also has grade changes.

a huge benefit of raising the gradient of the train track earlier is that you could integrate a pedestrian walkway underneath the train track to make the boardwalk feel like less of a dead end. When it comes to the PAB wall, I’d consider this, if you spend an hour stacking 5 boxes, or throw the same parts in 6 or 7 boxes and spend a lot less time on it for the extra 20 or 40 bucks, how fast can you make that money back selling Minifigs or whatever. It’s a balancing act, what’s more valuable, a few extra parts or your time. Personally, I’d be throwing parts in boxes and making my money back in the time I saved instead.

I feel the train track is sitting rather high relative to its arch. I don't recall how the substructure is built, but I suspect it can be lowered by 2 plates or a brick without affecting the clearance underneath. I also don't think the arches need widening. I'd strongly recommend building the sides of the canal before committing to an arch-widening; I even wouldn't be surprised if they're already too wide.

You could have the seawall be higher on the right side of the bridge to help disguise the slop and minimize the bridge slope. I think um you mentioned raising the buildings near the canal, so this could also be part of the sea wall height. And move the sidewalk away from between the road and train…to the building side…I’ll still bang on about that one

If your goal is to gradually include an incline leading into a mountain range might I suggest starting that grade from the water on. If you have extra sheets of melamine left over why not just cut them to size and just lay another sheet over the top of the table. You just have to lay the sheets around to fit where you want to canal to go. That will give you some actual elevation to work off of cause that seems to be the main struggle. You can use some of those pool table discs things to add even more height, consider it like your raised platform in your old setup, just much lower and spread out.

Rather than extending the tran incline you could maybe lower the height of the bridge track by a brick. Keep the arch height but drop the height of the track. This would decrease the incline so the heavier trains can make it over easier and not come screaming down the other side. You might also be able to take out the flexi track pieces. Just a thought.

2 comments about the train tracks. First, if you raise the rails between the city and beach, it would help separate the two areas. Second, I feel that you could make a minor change to the two rail lines that go through the train station. I think one line should turn and go towards the city and the other turn and go towards the amusement park. It would allow you to isolate two separate loops to have two trains running at the same time without their paths crossing.

The drawbridge is a neat idea... but you just have nowhere to put the mechanism unless it's a structure like the lift span on the old Okanagan Lake floating bridge... and something like that is absolute overkill for a span as small as the width of the canal. Keeping the bridges basically as they are there looks great, I think, and when you have the rest of the city together to your satisfaction the canal bridges can be revisited then if you get some ideas along the way.

Loving the updates. I think the road grade looks fine. There are real bridges with steep slopes. Bridges are awesome the way they are, I don't think there's any value in messing with it right now. Or the train grades. Not when there's all kinds of other projects to switch to. Sometimes it's best to work on something else and then come back fresh. Another option on the left is to raise the rails, but then also raise the *road* on the far side of the rail line along the zoo up a brick or two. Then after crossing the tracks it drops back down. It's a bit of work and those road plates would be custom relative to the rest of the city, but then you'd have even more interesting elevation changes.

What if you move the railroad tracks back a baseplate and so they run between fire station and the buildings on the back side of it and remove the street right on the ocean and then you could have an iconic skyline waterfront (keeping the boardwalk) that would be similar to several world cities. Then the first focus would be on your lovely city and not necessarily the infrastructure which (because of Lego’s strange mini figure proportions) can sometimes look clunkier than the more elegant buildings? Just an idea. Always love your great videos and the mural and city look spectacular!

The issue is that everything is all on the same level so things clash. In the model railway hobby with a river or canal in this case, you build down not up, you would have a cut out section for the canal below the baseboard level. There is no rush, not everything will be done and finished within 3 days, take your time and try planning. This could be so amazing and detailed not just a bunch of Lego sets on a table.

He’s definitely worked himself into a corner by just throwing everything onto the table as quickly as possible without really thinking about layout. He almost needs to scrap it and start over. Just all seems rushed and sloppy.

Like in Venice (Italy) you could add a Venetian Gondola under the low bridge with two people on and the "gongoliere" (the sailor) jumping on the bridge. I've seen videos and photos online about it. Could be a nice addition.

Great video as always! Maybe for the bridges you could sorta fake some of the elevation change also, like make the actual train track and roadway not go up quite as far, but have the sides of the bridges go up higher (like side walls). This could create the illusion of a higher bridge but allow you to actually lower the travel surfaces a bit to lessen the grades. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!

We bought the Snow White Cottage yesterday because it doesn’t have that huge warning sticker on it yet. Lego employee said the next shipment will probably have it on it

you could start the grade around the corner and wait till behind the beach to start the down grade that way you could have pedestrian tunnels from the beach to the town

I've seen road grades like that on creeks. Sometimes even in real life you got a distance problem like that and have to adapt to it.

the canal looks good but i would have to agree, make it a lot wider and make sure it can actually fit small boats under

The track bridge slope, simple, last raise, being two plates, not a brick, that you could do on the middle slope track section, if needed. And adding a plate to your track curves height, is quite possible, right?

You could have the Boats for the canal come from the other end so you don’t need a bridge at the end of table but I really think it’s your city and do what you want Cheers from 🇦🇺

I say you should raise BOTH sides of the train hill up. Only fair to do both sides, not just one.

speaking of bridges, I think you should have a ped bridge farther up the canal. Maybe you're already thinking of that in the future.

its wide enough as the canal will be comparable on the other side after building upgrades and elevation increase. awesome, enjoy!

The arch needs to fit a boat through it, like a canal boat or smaller boats

You may have answered this in a different video, but could all of the mils plates have been, for instance, 2 bricks deep rather than the 1? I thought the whole point of mils, besides adding strength and the ability to move buildings easily, was so you can landscape and add depth to certain areas. If the mils plates were deeper then issues with the train line/bridge gradient would look a lot nicer perhaps as it would be sunk in more. However, keep up the good work, the clouds look awesome when you have the camera low down into the city 👍

When you raise the train rack in corner you could make a pedestrian tunnel under so people can access rock beach cove

why not use columns that go in the water for the bridges? will solve some visibility issues and is more realistic

It all looks great, I’d start working on the other side of the canal and if adjusting the bridges and arches is warranted at that point make the decision then!
