For my expensive trains like the Santa Fe, I found some storage totes and cut memory foam to line the totes and separate the trains. No train touches the tote or another train. You can drop the tote and the trains won't get damaged. I definitely takes more space, but the trains won't get damaged. I even figured out a process for cutting memory foam on a table saw to get really nice cuts.

Hey Bricktsar, Nice to see you. Good to see the old Super Chief is still around. My Super Chief is getting ready for a run tomorrow, from the Transit Hub East station out to Winter Village Station, around to Transit Hub West Station, and back to Transit Hub East. That should be fun. Anyways, gotta go, my cats need my attention. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

I feel your pain! As much trouble as it is, each car needs to go into a bag, then in the tub.

Seems like this would be a good way to deal with cars that are falling apart, too, so you don't have to stop and rebuild everything before storing. Just bag 'em, box 'em, and then rebuild them later when you're ready to play with them again.

Yup, that’s what I do, each car/loco goes in its own ziplock and into a box.

I’m a cheap Dutchman and I’ve started to store sets in used jigsaw puzzle boxes but only the solid paper cardboard kind not the flimsy kind. Thrift store sells them for $1 each.

Here's a hint for you, trains roll when placed wheels down and that leads to scratched Lego pieces. Place them in those bins on their SIDE, that way they don't roll and scratch each other to pieces. Those bins should fit two layers of trains on their sides. Place either paper in between the layers or better, bubble wrap. I store all of my trains this way in 55 gallon tubs and get about ten layers per tub and have 5 or 6 bins of trains stored this way.

Hi jaabo, you could get extra 1 and 2 stickers for the train carriages and make your own 11, 12, 21, 22 carriages 👍👍👍👍

12:44 that looks kinda like a British (Thomas Tank Engine) brake van car. It's similar to an American caboose.😂 That's my Rivet Counter moment. I've been wanting to build a layout combining Milwaukee road and Rock Island but, the era that they operated in would require for me to get a huge number of old and newer rail cars. It's kind of mind-boggling. Hopefully sometime later on this year I'll purchase some of the BMR instructions. Rivet Counters would have a field day with anything I build.

Came for the lego train sort and organize, stayed for the depressed sighs of regret and self-disappointment.

It’s sort of like Christmas lights; you put them nice and organized in a box, then the next year, you open the box and they’re all tied in a giant knot, lol

The number 1 and 2 on the blue and yellow cars aren’t car numbers. They Deonte first and second class cars

organising freight trains is harder than passenger trains. this video will set the world record for #BBI. i wonder if Allen Wrench and Lamar Cutter would be best friends

It seems clear you do not have the space for all those trains. Now because I am always willing to help a Lego man I will let you send me all those trains and I will pay for the postage no problem as I am such a helpful humanitarian overflowing with the milk of human kindness. Please send that Santa fe train first as that takes up so much room.

Shouldn't the horizon express say 14 instead of 10 at front sticker?

On the sticker sheet you can choose between 10 and 14 as it comes with 2 of these numbers

It’d be nice if you had some wall space to put up some narrow shelving to display all of those trains. I’ve even seen nice custom train display cases at train shows that have grooves routed into the wood for the wheel flanges to fit into, those would be cool to have for all your LEGO trains too. And I agree with Joey, put each car/loco in its own ziplock bag then store it, it’ll serve two purposes, keeping all the parts together if they fall off and keep them from getting all scratched up. And lastly, are you going to retire at 62, 65, or 67? Whatever the answer, you’re going to have a busy yet fun filled retirement. I recently turned 56 but I probably won’t be able to retire until 67. Covid was a nice retirement preview though, and I’m definitely looking forward to it! 🙂

#BAT Do you label your containers before you put them on shelves? Also, I wonder if you could stuff crumpled paper or something in empty spaces in containers to prevent things from rolling around.

You're doing a great job getting things organized, by the way!
