Successful extract is actually the smallest reward. Extracting is only actually great for samples, and we will sometimes INTENTIONALLY hand all our samples to one guy in scout armor and the rest of us make our last stand further away then "try" to get to extract before it leaves.

Bricky, what you dont get is that your character is not the same as in the tutorial, so they didn't give you a full ship, but they gave the ship more ammo. All those pods you see when logging into the game are helldivers waiting to be unleashed, and every time you die, you last characater gets replaced.

This is a lie spread by un-democratic dissidents to get HEROIC HELLDIVERS killed through misinformation. The Barrage is entirely random and it may or may not hit the middle. It's a gamble no matter where you stand. BUT... if someone uses a Shield Dome stratagem to protect the team and drop a barrage on the same spot, then it will function defensively and hurt everything around while the squad stays safe.

As cool as this game is, I can’t help but feel a bit concerned that the militaristic satire might fly over people’s heads, and turn them blindly patriotic and jingoistic, like how GI Joe did the same to an entire generation of kids back in the 80s, minus the satire. I really hope that this game doesn’t unintentionally become pro-military propaganda, because I like this game, and I want it to be a game, and not social conditioning.
