@Nottheguyyouthinkitis I played on the third highest difficulty setting, you over-aggressive, easily-offended moron. I've 100%'d both Nioh Games, Sekiro, and Sifu. Hard games are not the issue. The issue is that the first Uncharted game has combat controls that are in their infancy compared to what they'd become later. Enemies spawn in massive numbers, are pinpoint-accurate if you're out of cover, the weapons aren't well-balanced, the melee "extra ammo" kills are wonky to execute, and a good bit of the platforming is a trial-and-error chore. The game is clunky. It doesn't mean I didn't enjoy playing it, but it means it's far from a smooth experience.

I even beat it on brutal, which I suggest not doing unless you love to spawn and die in one spot for an hour then maybe dead eye dick misses his shot giving you the chance to shoot him first. My biggest gripe is the melee combat and of course the jet ski parts. The zombies is the best part and in my opinion the best supernatural part in the entire series. UN2 guardians were cool but they didn't give me the feeling that the zombies did and the UN3 hallusionan was weak in my opinion. I already look forward to seeing the rest of your stuff! That aside, it's an apt retrospective of 1. I haven't played it since I've first done so, and you highlight its main problems rather well. The absence of Sully for most of the game hurts, and after having played 3 first, I'm to this surprised they did it again in 2. So in retrospect, I suppose that, at the end of the day, I'm just glad this one exists lol

It’s interesting to hear someone who’s opinions on Uncharted 1 are so different to mine. I have to say I have always, and will always love Drake’s Fortune with all my heart. I have never found myself having any problems with the shooting, that being said, the jet ski is… yep it’s bad, but generally I enjoy the gameplay. I’ve beaten Drake’s Fortune more times than any other Uncharted game due to its short length and nostalgia factor, even beating it on crushing. While Drake’s Fortune isn’t my fav Uncharted game, I still prefer it to Uncharted 3, a game which I don’t enjoy that much. I look forward to the rest of your Uncharted reviews!

This entries combat does appear difficult but i retried it after a couple years and after running through this on crushing and a couple of speed-runs later you learn the quarks of it. For example run-and-gun has god tier levels of aim assist to the point where i found myself using it in tight space instead of melee (especially with the shotgun). Melee and bullets multiply damage so blasting 2 enemies from far away then running up and finishing em off with a punch works surprisingly well. You can stun enemies for a brief second with one shot and use that time to fight them then move to a new bit of cover. Dodge rolling works for every enemy type not just the laser ones. IDK Maybe I just do well inspite of the bad combat.

Don't forget to note that Gabriel Roman is voiced by Simon Templeman, a huge veteran in the industry that voice Raziel in the Legacy of Kain (Soul Reaver) series. A series that was directed and designed by Amy Hennig, who also directed the uncharted series. Nice video! I played this game first hand this past year (got a lot of homework to do, yeah) and I agree with you: the shooting parts suck 70% of the time. They didn't really invest that much in polishing those mechanics as in face expression (that is, still today, brutal)

It’s actually a good game. At the time of its release I’d never experienced anything like it before. The vibrant colors and beautiful visuals were in complete opposition to what games looked like then. The characters were filled with such personality, and Drake voicing what the audience was thinking in scenes was very special. It was the kind of game you wished would gain the attention to further expand its world for a sequel. I often replay this game for the memories, and often consider this a major transition point in narrative games. It’s still special as a work of art, be it dated or not
