My least favorite "unlock" or "reward" in a game is when I level up or something, and I am giving a note that says "Congratulations on [Acheivement], you can now purcahse the [Bundle] at half price! But only if you get it within the next three days!" This isn't a reward, this is an obligation, and one I am happy to shirk
@Redvox573 жыл бұрын
Deep rock galactic is also a pretty good game for this. Leveling up gets you new skins to buy, ontop of two level systems that always are shown, you also get a border on your character for progression. Then there is the more rare random loot you find in levels, that give tons of cool shit, which can be very hard to get. And now there is a battle pass (that is completely free mind you) that you level up, and earn points to get items out of a progression tree, and work towards.

Ghost of Tsushima's multiplayer mode, "Legends Mode" does this exceptionally well. You can't buy armour skins or sword cases in that mode. You have to unlock them by completing various challenges for each of the four classes. Hell, the single-player campaign requires you to explore the entirety of Tsushima (and post-expansion, the entirety of Iki Island) island to find talismans, flowers for your armour skins and sword cases, and even masks for your character are hidden away in the map that you have to actively seek out and find for yourself (or use a guide if you're lazy).

Another really good example was the Vidmaster Achievements in Halo 3 and ODST. I literally remember Recon armor being this legendary thing that only Bungie employees having and the fact they came out with the ability to earn it if you complete these almost impossible challenges to unlock it made it such an amazing experience. I will never forget the night my friends and me finished the final one in ODST with the final level and we rushed over to Halo 3 and all had Recon armor and feeling like we were literal gods and the feeling we had of everyone being like "oh shit they have Recon armor!" in the pre-game lobbies. I really miss these kind of things and I wish more games would do stuff like that again.

Absolutely agreed. For me personally the B is the most important part, and honestly Apex has done it so well with the Champion system. You win a game, and when you go into the next everyone in the lobby gets to see your cool badges and trackers and hear the cool one liner you've picked, and then your banner is hanging everywhere in the map. It's a real hype moment. And when you see the champion is a Wraith with 10k kills and Master/4k/20 kills badges, you really feel something down there tighten.

MMO's actually do this pretty well, in my experience FFXIV, for example, has the Legend titles and mounts for clearing current-tier high-end content, and the mounts become available for casual players in the longrun as the current content becomes old content and can be cleared easier There's always titles, mounts, minions, gear cosmetics, etc etc for doing basically anything in the game, and you always have a way to show off your accomplishments

I want to make a game like Anthem/Warframe/Titanfall...where the concept of having a mechsuit be able to separate from the operator and act on it's own. The idea is that you start in your suit in a battle royale setting; and as the circle closes, your suit will eventually be destroyed...leaving you the operator to figure things out from there. Matches will be longer than most battle royale games for this reason; cus everyone will want to play as their mech for as long as possible. You'll always have your loadout at the start of the game. you'll never be caught lacking without your kit; and instead you'll loot chests for ammo, and special items. Survive the match with these special items equipped and they will be added to your inventory to then tear apart and use to upgrade your loadout or to use as they are in the next match. The operator themselves will have a primary and secondary weapon, and each can have up to 10 upgrades, attachments and perks; along with grenades, a tactical item, 5 perk trees that are unlocked over time and shields the regenerate over time along with their health. There will be 12 mechs (or classes), all with their own strengths and weaknesses; each one will have a primary and secondary weapon just like their operators but more powerful and balanced against other mechs and not against operators, giving the suits a very distinct advantage. Instead of a tactical item, each mech will have a special ability that sets them apart; an example being a Goliath chassis (or the Barbarian class) will have an ability called Overcharge, giving it increased damage reduction, movement speed and melee damage against other mechs and operators. Additionally, each mech will have a skill tree and unlockable subclasses to better hone your playstyle. Progression is simple; just play the game. The more you try things, the faster you progress; and when you find your main mech or operator kit, it won't block you from unlocking other items or things in the game. Everything is purchased and upgraded with credits; and the store will sell store-exclusive skins and such for real money. You HAVE to play through the ranks in order to get the stuff you want for your build; but then once you do, you can get all the drip you can afford from the store if that's what you want.

I'm a little disappointed that Sea of Thieves wasn't mentioned in this video. I personally believe that it has an amazing CBT to it, it has amazing Casual accessibility since once you start the game you have everything you need. It had great Big Dick Factor as cosmetic can clearly show your how much time you've spent on the game as basically the whole premise of the game is to get gold to buy these cosmetics. And Time Investment is also a great factor as the cosmetic to show off your time are very expensive, not only that but the game is regularly updated to add new things for you to do.
@crusadercarlos23453 жыл бұрын
Doom eternal also has really good CBT, a ton of challenges to get slayer skins, gun skins, titles, and secret challenges you get by doing secret things. It’s multiplayer also has challenges for skins and even a small free battle pass that gets you some other cosmetics by just doing battle pass challenges and playing the game. Their are zero microtrabsactions. With doom people can go for whatever skin they want, some are easier and still look cool and then their are those few skins that let you know that, that person worked their ass off for it

I'd like to throw in a game with great CBT is Halo Master Chief Collection. They have battle passes that don't expire and you can do challenges to earn points to progress, it also has seasonal challenges to get some cool ass once in a lifetime armor for example the past season if you got an air assassination on a elite on Halo Reach you'd get a mjolnir helmet that's looks like a 3 year old draw on it called Master Chef. Like I love the game but you can do campaign and get points and go to multiplayer and get points do horde mode and get points I love how they fix it. The fact that they have battle passes that don't expire or disappear and you can progress on any pass at any rate is #1 the best feature I've seen in any game

A good, modern example of good CBT progression in a co-op mutiplayer is Deep Rock Galactic. You got your C in that core progression comes from just leveling up your characters witch you do by just playing with them. You got your you B and your T in that holy rock and stone! That random player i just got into a mission with is max promotion with his class AND has a player rank 777, witch means he has leveled up a total of 2331 times! As a newer player with a lowly player rank 26, I can't even imagine the amount of time that guy had to have put in the game, and I had high respect for him! Also the game has a very good amount of unlockalbe cosmetics and upgrades that you earn though leveling up, earn bycompleting challenges, earn by finding them mid mission, and earn by completing extra hard weakly missions. I gtg now by tldr, play deep rock Galactic iys really good and it has great pergression.

Dragon Age Inquisition had great progression. Huge map areas with lots of stuff to do allowed skilled players to plow through quickly at levels just high enough to make it or casual players to enjoy the journey and over level a bit before moving on if needed. Always lots of loot to find and if not for you it can go to one of many interesting companions or be broken down for materials to craft really cool stuff. Always something to work towards and a great path to get there. The extra DLC's added really large areas with many hours of extra play time and actually continued the character development. If DLC is high quality then no one minds paying a bit more. It's when there's an almost constant requirement to keep plowing money in to make any progress at all do people get pissed off.

My biggest CBT, was the onyx head shot medal in gears of war 3, if you get killed by someone in the game, it shows you their name and medal, I got that medal, it cost 4k head shots to get that medal.... and I got that medal 6 times... 6!!!! Not to mention I got that Savage Theron guard character for GoW3, one of the rarest characters in the game because people had to beat a game mode called beast mode on insane difficulty, me and a few of the boys did it and it was awesome, on the last mission we went in with berserks saving up points and by the end of it we were stuck using little tickers to get the final kill before time ran out, good times.
