If the US wants to be full protectionist then consumption will decline in the US. At the same time, consumption will increase in BRICS countries. People want and need things, like vehicles, farm machinery, parts for vehicles, parts for machines, appliances, bicycles, motor scooters, electronics, parts/components, apparel, etc. As a result, the standard of living will increase in the BRICS countries, and it will decline in the US. The imports will still be flowing into the US, because they cannot produce a lot of the stuff they are importing. However, these products will cost more, and the people in the US will have less disposable income.

We are seeing it Now. It is just that some will only see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear…. Exactly like the Romans

The strategy of the U.S. ruling class in the 1980s and 1990s was to effect a huge transfer of wealth from labor to capital. The strategy involved breaking the power of labor unions and moving industrial manufacturing out of the United States to low-wage countries. The strategy succeeded in its aim of greatly increasing the wealth of the owners of capital, and it also resulted in the fall of living standards for the working class. But at the same time the de-industrialization of the United States would lead inevitably to a decline of U.S. imperialist power. What kind of superpower has a declining industrial base for its mamoth military? What kind of superpower outsources the the manufacture of the components of its weapons to its adversaries? Trump therefore will try to re-industrialize but without an industrial policy like those used by Asian countries to build up their industrial economies. The only arrows in Trump's quiver are tariffs, sanctions, and outright theft of assets. He doesn't believe in science or education, so it's unlikely that he will invest in the human capital needed to re-industrialize the United States. The STEM gap between China and the United States will grow under Trump.

Food and Beverage growth has been totally driven by acquisition of foreign companies and brands - not by any organic or market share growth in the US.

The Russians said that the war will only end on their terms. Since they are winning handily, and Western ammunition stockpiles are only decreasing, why should they meet Western demands when they are in total control of the game?

Knights Templar used IOU notes as first paper currency. Definitely not China. US first to overprint currency with no real collateral.
@ubilozberossus157914 сағат бұрын
@keith The Templars were not the first organisation in the world to provide such a service. Several centuries earlier, Tang dynasty China used "feiquan" - flying money - a two-part document allowing merchants to deposit profits in a regional office, and reclaim their cash back in the capital. But that system was operated by the government. Templars were much closer to a private bank - albeit one owned by the Pope, allied to kings and princes across Europe, and run by a partnership of monks sworn to poverty. ^^^^^ that's from a BBC site and other sites say similar things. Depends on your belief and interpretation of the words of such sites, or other sources that may not be showing up, I guess, on who "invented" it.

Tariffs will not solve the problem of the US trade deficit. The main cause of this in recent years is the budget deficit. So long as the budget deficit persists, so will the trade deficit.
