Powerful video! McCarthy's of Inchydoney and Massey Man Photography - an iconic combination. A unique magic that happens when you bring together the people and landscape of West Cork. The special beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way being tamed by the fierce and rich character of Irish blood. None tells a better story of the blessings of Ireland than you, SeánÓg!

Great Video, might be a lot more pit silage made this year, bale wrap and fuel costs may make it more attractive if the farm set up for it.

Great video,well shot etc . How much drying time between mowing and picking up? Is there a need for mowing then raking? What are the benefits and is this a trend or profitable? Alot of extra machinery for limited results

It’s the difference between 22% DM silage and 28% DM silage why would you bring in bad silage and have your cows perform port in the winter it’s all about quality now not quantity
@oliver69cork462 жыл бұрын
@@MasseyManPhotography perfectly achievable without raking, that is the point of a mower conditioner . Mower conditioner in single swaths then double in a day after will do the same. Once I left silage for 3 days in single swaths with conditioner turned up,had 58% dm silage in bales,in pit that wouldn't be good but after 2 days possible to achieve 30%. To me all that raking etc isn't viable as costed against feeding gains. Plus with your spring grass based system, optimum dm isn't really viable fed to non producing cows. But each to their point of view. Here in France they cut 2 single swaths side by side and let for 2-3 days then pick up with a 4 metre header,much more viable.

Yes but all this silage needs to be of top quality as it is feeding a winter milking herd. Also if the harvester is not taking in enough grass it will not run under proper load and 2x 10ft swath is not enough and the harvester will have to travel too fast to perform properly and too fast not good.
@oliver69cork462 жыл бұрын
@@seanoflynn9710 true don't disagree at all with you . Here in tarn france yesterday saw a new holland new harvester picking up 30ft swaths with a folding header of 6ms,silage cut since Saturday to Tuesday, like confetti up the spout ,wondered will that be too dry,someone there told me no,not when moisture is high under and dry like hay on top,it was estimated 40%!!! Silage was mown and laid side to side in conditioned swaths, no extra machines or cost,that's my issue with tedding and raking ,too much cost as versus benefits

If you look at the parts where the rake features the grass is Tedded out that’s why a rake is needed
