He looks like he’d rather be anywhere else…and he didn’t nix her dress, she sent him a list and he picked that one as the least favourite with no idea it was hers and SHE freaked. She’s bawling because she found HER ideal dress- the last time she found her cousin’s dream dress because SHE DIDN’T TRY IT ON. The man deserves a medal.

To start with I thought 'uh oh' control freak, but actually he was super sweet and supportive. She didnt even try on the first dress, her cousin tried it. It became clear he was on her side. He jumped straight up when she cried. The test run for dancing and 'we got the dress' cheer was everything ❤

That’s what I thought too! It seemed as though the first time the bride wanted to bring the fiancé but the family heavily influenced her against that. Now she’s back with the person who supports her most and they found a dress they both love. 😊

I agree. He didn't complain about her first dress -- she ASKED him to rank 9 different dresses and hers wound up on the bottom. He didn't know it was her dress. She wanted his opinion -- he didn't force it on her.

I personally tried dating a man who was not controlling and was easy going and we are not together today because I felt he didn’t have a backbone.

@@AkireMaru There's a difference between being controlling, introverted, laid-back, and not having a backbone. Someone can be controlling but lack backbone and be an insecure weasel. Like wise, someone can be laid back but know exactly what they want and how they want it. They're just not going to be uppity about it if it's not perfect. introverted doesn't mean you need controlling, it means you need peace alone time. I'm introverted, if someone tried to control me, tell me what to do, wear, how to talk or think, kick them out of my house and tell them to go get a dog, because I don't sit on command. Eff that.

Can everyone just stop deciding about other people’s relationships? Everyone’s relationship works and looks different based on the two completely unique individuals who make up the couple. I know tons of women who had all sorts of things to say about what the groom wore. And I’ve known plenty of men who had a say in what the bride wore. Why would either be controlling? It’s their wedding *together* and many couples make their decisions about this incredibly expensive, most important day of their lives, collectively. That’s actually a really healthy thing. Now if she said she wanted to pick it out on her own and surprise him but he didn’t respect that, that would be a very different story. But that’s not what happened here.

So i'm not sure I was watching the same video I was... The groom didn't seem controlling, he seemed like he cared and was genuinely happy when she found the dress that made her cry. She literally said that her cousin is the one that tried on her first dress not her... Seems like her family was controlling and that she didnt really have a say the first time.... Its 2024 folks, not everyone sticks to the same traditions... Before everyone starts bashing what im saying you should know that I have never been someone others can control or manipulate, I have been happily married for 14 years and we had a very traditional church ceremony.... I just understand that everyone is different and what I saw was a supportive man not a controlling a**!

I completely agree. I find it strange that people thought he was controlling, when it seemed like it was the original family that was controlling and forced her to choose a dress that looked good on her cousin. Plus remember he didn't know which one she picked, he just didn't likes that 1 from the photos. He was honest, and he told her his preference. Sure she might have self-esteem issues, but as soon as she liked the dress enough to cry, he comforted her and he accepted that dress. Men don't want their wives to dress like their Grandma's LOL

Umm why are the comments so harsh? He’s not ‘controlling’, she showed him some dress pics and he said he didn’t like a couple. Sounds like she was already wavering hence needing him to see the dress options in the first place. And when she came out wearing dresses he was complimentary about her in all of them. Yes he got bored shopping but show me one guy who doesn’t. And he clearly just wanted her to feel good. The dress she ended up with looked amazing on her, way better than the first one. What the hell are you talking about?? When the first bride came out in the 1st dress, it was horrible. When she came out in the dress of her choice her fiancé loved it. When the tears flowed, he jumped up to comfort her. He was not controlling her.when he saw the pics of her first pic, he said he hated it. A little strong of language, but she was the one who showed it to him, so??He liked it better in person, so he would have liked it on the wedding day, after alterations had been made and with a veil. But she chose to show him the pic and from there they ended up back at Kleinfeld’s and she left with a gorgeous gown. Never did the groom-to-be show any aggressive or controlling behavior. I used a skill called critical thinking. You may want to look into it. It is very helpful in situations such as this.

No difference between asking her mother, asking her best friend, or asking her groom. Whoever she wants. Having said that, this particular groom seems rather controlling. Unpopular opinion: I didn't find the groom controlling at all. He was there to support, guide (as she wanted his input), reassure, and share in the moment. I find it wild that a groom helping to plan the wedding is considered 'controlling'. It's not the bride's day - it is the couples day and if the bride wants it to be all hers, then there are some red flags for you.

The only thing that struck me as controlling was her saying he has to be in every decision and him saying he didn't patience for shopping or didn't like shopping or whatever it was. So, I had thought, "...So, why are you there then?" But by the end of it, I didn't actually feel like he was being controlling. He was supportive of her, especially when she started crying over the dress she loved, and he seemed genuinely happy for her.

Well , I was in a relationship for around 15 years and without telling everything else, one thing he did was tell me what I should wear , criticise what I was wearing, when I was out he made me actually change! , criticise as I was just about to leave. So I would be out feeling very uncomfortable, very low self esteem and no confidence. I’m out of that now in a new relationship and wear what I choose even if it’s not fashionable all the time. I can’t live like that . Get out now . These men don’t change 😢

So...the bride's family helped her pick a beautiful dress, & the first thing 'Joe' does in response is say it's ugly & insist on cancelling it so he can chose the dress himself. It's not just disrespectful to his bride, it's disrespectful to her family. He seemed pissed that her family helped the bride make a decision without him, & he was determined to undermine that decision & get his own way. I can hear the red flags snapping in the wind.

It would be interesting to see the first bride's first appointment. It seems very strange that someone else was trying the dress on for her. I don't think I have ever seen that in this show and the dress wasn't that small for her. Maybe if she was heavily pregnant or something, but bride's try on dresses that don't zip up all the time. I'm glad she found a dress she liked and it definitely seemed more convenient for dancing than the first pick.

A lot of people are being mean to the groom and I get it. However her recounting the first appointment and how she chose a dress she didn’t even try on was a major red flag for me! She even said that the person who did try it on had a different body type.

I was thinking the same! I didn’t think he was bad at all. From the title it makes it sound like she liked the dress and then he vetoed it when the reality is she wanted his opinion from the beginning (some brides actually do it’s not uncommon at all) but her family talked her out of it AND she never loved the dress to begin with. So, she came back and brought him with her like she wanted to from the beginning. When asked what he wanted in a dress, he didn’t emphasize something tight and sexy, he said something she could dance in. When he got bored he didn’t rush her or complain, he just wandered the store. When he didn’t like a dress, he didn’t trash it, he responded quite gently with his thoughts. Then when he saw she finally fell in love with a dress, he immediately told her she looked beautiful in it. What’s there to complain about, again?

We check with each other on many aspects of our life together, but trying to closely control how a woman dresses... as may commenters noted, that's a red flag.

My husband saw the wedding dress I picked out all by myself, because I don’t need someone else to tell me I looked good in it, my husband loved my dress, I helped him pick out his wedding outfit, it was small church wedding in a very small town, it was perfect, my Brother in law is a Pastor and he performed the service, we had our reception across the street from the church. My husband didn’t even look at my dress until the morning of our wedding, we had so many family members who showed up around 2am, the night before our wedding, and 1 tiny bathroom, so everyone saw everyone’s clothes & we celebrate our 45th year of marriage in a month.

I told my boyfriend early on that he can have his opinions and preferences, but that doesn't mean I will do it. For example, shaving my legs in winter is a no no for me, it's bad enough in summer. For all the people criticizing the 1st bride for inviting the groom, it is memorable day for him too. It is ultimately the bride's choice, but why should mother's, inlaws, and assorted females have more say than the one standing across from you, and helping you take it off later?
