I usually only see people buy different dresses when the cultural expectations are very different, for example, an Indian wedding and a western one. But hey, this woman obviously comes from a family with an insane amount of money, her “less extravagant“ budget was $10.000.

I am blown away at the price of the wedding, I mean $500, 000??!!! I swear her daddy must be a multi-billionaire. Even spending $17,000 on a dress blows and obliterates my mind. I cannot comprehend spending even $1000 on a dress for 1 day! My dress cost $400. And I was happy, and just celebrated my 10yr wedding anniversary. This is just mind blowing. The interesting part is 10yr later, I still have the favorite wedding of all my family and my parents didnt spend nearly this much. Her $17,000 was close to my entire wedding. I think my parents said the whole wedding was $20k-$25k. Like seriously. Sometimes less is way more.

Let me give u context...African weddings are EXTRA. Most of our parents save for them very early on and with us...we have SEVERAL customs to conclude before the "white wedding" so its sometimes a 4 day affair so the planning is extensive. We also don't just divorce easily...both families try to assist the couple even when in trouble. It may sound insane but for us its normal...

They should have taken her in a complete different direction, would have loved to have seen the bride in a flowing lace dress with sparkling crystals on the bottom. Her family is from Nigeria, where corruption is huge, and poverty is pervasive, so many people are starving ... this is sickening. Her father works for the oil industry. Do a google search on the oil industry in Nigeria. The violence around the oil industry, displaced people, poisoned land and water, rivers that sporadically catch on fire because there is so much oil sitting on top of them, without any attempt to control the runoff and pollution. All so people like this girl can spend exorbitant amounts of money to drape themselves in head to toe crystals. Every single crystal is the result of taking food out of the mouths of hungry children, the fighting for the money for those crystals includes rapes of terrified women. Of course she wants the spotlight on her, so the suffering that follows her is left in the dark. SHAME!!!!

I love this bride's attitude, she stayed positive throughout being brought HORRIBLE cancan looking dresses for her wedding. I have no problem with her paying what she wills for two different tradition weddings. She will need another dress, because African weddings can last days, and weeks; even a month in that part of the world. Same for Middle Eastern, East Indian, Asian countries and many other cultures like American Indian. Those are whole other continents, we cannot always expect everyone to fit our standard. These are entire affairs! You are on Display- being PRESENTED- to gain your ranking and status among, the tribes' families, nation, and communities. This ain't yo' cousins afternoon wedding that lasts 5 hours. Think bigger. It is okay to be a practical American, but in this case it is not warranted. There is time--and-place for everything! You could shame the family wearing something that was meant for their special event, to something less than the affair YOUR/or your Spouses Family has given you. I get it, cudos to her for marrying ROYALTY! Do you, Honey. 🤑💯💅

What is it with countries with an annual salary of less than a developed country’s weekly salary producing people who are comfortable spending more on their wedding then entire villages will earn in a lifetime. It’s your money, so what you want, but I couldn’t hold a wedding like that next to such poverty. And before I am hit with claims of hypocrisy, I know how much I donate, volunteer, and economize in my own life to do so, so o am comfortable stating such obscene shows of wealth is grotesque.
