The Mum's dress is quite like my own wedding dress from Laura Ashley I wore in 1986. I had a silk flower crown, but mine was a full circle and slimmer than Mum's. My Dad pulled the bow tight giving me a great waist! I've been married 36 years now and I lost my Dad in 1998.

My was similar when I married in 1988 it was duchess satin with an embroidered bodice. My dad died in 1997 and I am so glad he was there to walk me down the aisle.

Her mom's dress was quite modern and retro 40/50's considering styles in now (Vladiyan royal,tea length,bows.). It would have been nice if they had added something on the back like the bow to give it some structure on the opening. Really think the aisle runner "A tale as old as time" is so cute - that would be the kind of idea I would borrow.

That's such a lovely idea! I really love when families have a tradition of incorporating sentimental family pieces into new wedding dresses and tuxes. My friend's mum used fabric from her mother's wedding dress in hers, and then my friend used lace from her mum's wedding dress for the sleeves on hers. It looked beautiful and meant so much to them 💜

Libby , like so many Brides , should have found a REAL dressmaker or, and tailoring expert . Between them they would First have discussed their original button and the materials , then how these could become an integral or small part of a new dress . Then , very important they would have looked at Libby's frame, figure , height, skin and hair , even eye , colouring as these Have to be for obvious reasons seriously Considered then and ONLY then it is time to ask her what she likes in materials , style and adornments . From there those who understand how these can or should not factor in based on what will best display the Bride best from their Considered opinion.. AND before it even begins a budget that includes The time spent by anyone involved must be The Priority . From this rather than a mish mash will emerge a truly made to measure , one of a kind Wedding Gown that enhances , not overwhelms Libby who is the central figure regardless of the type of wedding . Too many off the peg altered dresses are merely that . An i off the peg too often over priced dress and rather than both the Bride and This gown melting into one there is an over embellished ,I'll conceived and worse provocative dress . This is a wedding and a Wedding Ceremony is a Commitment of lifelong Promises. therefore that dress should be part of that ideal

Beautiful but I would not pay someone to sew buttons on a dress. But then I sew and have made lots of clothes including wedding dresses. Seems like a pretty basic skill, since I have to reattach buttons to store bought clothes regularly

If the shop sews on the buttons then the whole dress is their responsibility. Sewing vintage silk buttons on a sheer fabric, correctly spaced, is a bit challenging. Also, perhaps the bride has enough to do without sewing 30 buttons or however many it was. And lastly, the shop may not have charged them for this service.

Why do you assume she doesn’t know how? It’s not just buttons - it’s old silk buttons on her expensive wedding dress, and there’s spacing to consider as well. Plus the time to do it correctly in a very busy time. Best let the professionals do it.
