Ditto touchdownturnaround7: much gratitude, D0nalF0ley, for posting this series in its entirety -- a wonderful treat that I missed 30 years ago, but finally got around to thanks to you.

it's reassuring to know that there is plenty of extra bedding.

it is interesting that the father of the children at brideshead finally returns when he is bad health. he never did want to be there and lived a lot of his life in venice to to me this is just some grand gesture to look good in his final days.

well that's what people often do. No surprise.

this is a stew of significant loves--Sebastian with a man who needs him, is it love? Cara with a man who doesn't love her but needs her, Julia and Charles, who knows what that is...and Cordelia, whose name suits her very well...

Ah the advantage of Privilege. Chinese drawing room.... and the Queens bed. And suddenly 40 servants are hopping to fulfil his ever wish. Ladies making the bed all fluffy and cozy. So much nicer than doing it oneself. LOL

There's something about Lord Marchmain's (Laurence Olivier's) gestures that seems be the same gestures Sebastien makes, a certain tilt of the head, perhaps an arrogant one. Whether Laurence copied Anthony Andrews or vice versa but its definitely there.

@sandyh59 I think the film is quite good as well and engaging. to me there is a bit too much julia and some out there side charactersbut even with those faults it is still well done.

Too much pompous and mannered Cordelia too

all about manners and appearances always pretend that you are not and that you are, or pretend that you are and our not. Sir Larry chews up scenery like a bad Shakespearean actor, in a good Shakespearean play, or is it the reverse. Thank Waugh and thank God is well let's not go there.
