What a humble, intelligent, thoughtful, altruistic and gifted man he is. Would give my right arm to see him act on stage sometime.

I was expecting every comment section to be filled with enraged fans insulting Mark and yelling that Sly should've won, and while there are definitely a few, I'm really happy that most comments are complimenting him for his amazing performance and much deserved win. There's still hope for mankind!

This is my opinion & I know there will be mean comments which I won't care about, to be honest Mark Rylance really deserved the Oscar, I mean look at him he's very talented & he's always extraordinary in movies & plays, I've been rooting for him since before the start of awards season, but Sylvester Stallone is not Oscar worthy & he doesn't deserve one, look at all the bad films he did all these years, and plus he should still stick with action movies, since that's his type of films. I can't wait to see more of Mark Rylance in the future instead of Sly.

Mark Rylance won over Stallone..... lol wut??? Thanks Academy, you ruined what could've been one the greatest moments in Oscar history. And yes, I think he deserved more than Rylance. Even though Rylance gave a subtle yet powerful performance, Stallone gave a vulnerable and honest performance that was better in the end.

this is the worst choice ever made by the academy. someone please tell how in the hell his performance is oscar worthy, he literally kept the exact same look on his face throughout the entire movie and he didn't do anything else. anyone could have done that
@miruvor
@miruvor 8 жыл бұрын
+‫عبد البديع فلاتة‬‎ I think it was rewarded because it was a refreshing, less-is-more style of performance - I get sick of seeing actors scream their lines at a hundred miles an hour until they’re blue in the face, or break down ugly-crying because the character has an Oscar-baiting cancer storyline, or behave like acting is an endurance sport where you have to eat raw bison liver or become a prima ballerina in under a year, because apparently anything less than that isn’t proper acting. That’s not about communication and imagination, it’s about one-upmanship. Those performances aren’t necessarily bad, but Jesus Christ I’ve seen too many of them. It’s refreshing to me to see a performance that doesn’t present everything on the surface, but creates an air of mystery. You watch Rylance more closely because you want to figure out what his character is thinking or feeling - as a spy, he’s not going to display his emotions or motivations openly to anyone.
@batterfly49
@batterfly49 8 жыл бұрын
+miruvor I don't ask for him to be over the top or scream his lines I just wanna see something impressive and something that not everybody can do. I do appreciate subdued performances if they are filled with emotions. that guy was emotionless throughout the entire movie. and his performance wasn't memorable at all. he wasn't even in the movie in the light of Tom hanks's presence
@batterfly49
@batterfly49 8 жыл бұрын
+miruvor oh and there's nothing wrong with being over the top. a subdued performance and an over-the-top performance are two sides of one coin. so eating raw bison liver is nothing short of impressive because it shows how dedicated an actor is to his craft
@miruvor
@miruvor 8 жыл бұрын
+‫عبد البديع فلاتة‬‎ Perhaps - but in my opinion, one side of the coin receives rather more attention that the other. Eating raw bison liver might indicate dedication, but to me that doesn’t necessarily translate into something meaningful or interesting on-screen. I don’t think acting should be an extreme sport in which actors have to put themselves through ever-increasing physical discomfort in order to ‘prove’ that it makes them a better actor, which seems to be the current trend. Again, I’m not saying that these performances are bad or that a very emotional performance can’t be Oscar-worthy - it’s just that, to me at least, they’ve become too similar and ubiquitous. It’s refreshing to see a subdued performance be rewarded, rather than being passed over in favour of ‘big’ performances. I doubt that anyone can argue someone else into liking a particular style of performance if it’s simply not what you prefer. It comes down to personal taste - I’ve seen plenty of reviews where, actually, Rylance is considered to have out-shone Hanks. He takes a character who could very easily be unlikeable, and makes him sympathetic and honourable. He’s able to create a sense of mystery and intrigue that creates a vacuum when he’s not there - which I don’t think everyone can do. Personally I think he was subtle, rather than emotionless, and that carries more resonance exactly because so many performances these days go in the other direction.
