I NEVER get tired of watching this clip!!! Douglas is so good and he looks like he really enjoys his role as "Percy". And that VOICE!! I never get tired of that either. I hope the show comes back someday and they bring the original cast back as well. It was a shame that the show didn't last a long as it should have. I would definitely go see it!!

It irks me to no end that the theatre industry doesn't record and sell its performances, not even when the shows are closed. Five years ago a happened across the soundtrack to this musical at my local library. I listened to it and was completely enchanted, and for five years I have been waiting for the opportunity to see this show, but nothing has been available. I understand watching the play live is special experience and that that industry is nervous about losing their live audience, but people haven't stopped going to concerts because Itunes exists. They could have a paid streaming service, or an individual rental website. I can't believe they money they could make from a potentially global digital audience won't compensate for any local viewers who would have seen the show live, but now watch it digitally.
@phoenixfire124 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. It would have been a good way to raise money during the shutdown of the theatres and it would probably reduse the pirates copies. Would you rather have the official copy that shows everything or one that is partially obstructed because they weren't supposed to be filming.

It’s called royalty rights. The authors own the rights to the show/music. Maybe if you were in the industry, you’d understand
@dear_totheheart Жыл бұрын
The industry must adapt, it legitimately is the same mentality museums have had for the longest time, fearing that if they digitize and make access to artifacts that people won't attend exhibits...when its the most ridiculous notion, no its advertising and showing people what they can see in person and enjoy and in terms of musicals, it is such an archaic and nonsensical view, as you mentioned selling digital copies/renting live performances, etc. to a global and ongoing living audience far outside the run time would drastically benefit and provide profit and incentives to all involved. Royalty rights out to be revised or adapted and the success of the Phantom of the Opera and other modern musicals with digital versions shows it can and ought to be done. I surely hope that there is at least a recording available with The Scarlet Pimpernel's original cast preserved and will be released for posterity someday

@@derikshopinski5651 it benefits copyright holders to have their creations listened to and paid for, legitimately. I bought the CD when first released and have been a Linda Eder fan since. As a 'down under' resident, seeing the live show is almost impossible. Purchasing the DVD would have been perfect had they released it. I, like many fans, have spent fortunes buying CDs and DVDs of shows I've enjoyed.

@@derikshopinski5651 hahaha, it's called bullshit and that is understood,.. or do you really think selling a few thousand tickets on Broadway can compete with selling hundreds of thousands of copies to the whole world?

The look on his face when he grabs her after "That decision is mine"...it completely kills me every single time. Just heartbreak and devotion and pure love. Unbelievable. And that silent screamed "No" after he finds out that Chauvelin has been with Marguerite...AHHHh I love Douglas Sills!

Such a brilliant performance, in another class from most, up with the legends of musical theater. How I'd love to see Doug Sills again in a new show, written for and worthy of him & his talents. Saw the tour of ADDAMS FAMILY with him, which I found fun & well done, if slight & unimportant in the broad context of musical theater. Nice to see, but not the kind of work he deserves to star in.

I believe Sills only performed Percy with Michals and Bodnar at the extended Los Angeles stay, or at least that's where he finished up. I was lucky enough to see SP1, SP3 and SP4 - while visiting NY, and we tried to live at the Ahmanson while SP was in LA. I never tire of seeing Sills play Percy, partly because that fourth wall comes down so often - and because the show kept changing!

Oh, I thought he said "Made you look." Because, once Chauvelin comes in, he has to be all foppish again and kind of silly, so he pretends to see the Pimpernel. So, he says "Pimpy" out towards the audience, I guess. And then, "Made you look." Although, he really does just burst out laughing. I mean, I think he's supposed to, but...haha. Douglas is just so brilliant.
