also when sue used the activator, she begged for the substance to give her a “better version of myself” which i think made the ending a bit more of a tragedy than it already is…. people see her as a disgusting monster but ultimately it was also that form that elisabeth/sue truly seemed to have accepted herself :(

My favorite take away from this movie is how our younger selves are not very nice to our older selves. We constantly do things that will impact our future (not working out enough, smoking , drinking, etc) but it doesn’t matter right now so we brush it off.

I LOVE that you guys react, but it's not just the reaction of the movie, it's also getting the message besides the story. I love how the women (idk your name is i’m sorry 😣) is sad and stressed the whole movie and the guy just laugh about it. I’m a guy who suffers from body image issues, and I can’t help but cry when I watch the movie. It hits to close to home. And honestly, I’m not on the level of desperation as elisabeth, but I am scared that I will someday. And that is just hard to see depicted in front of me.

Elisabeth was the perfect example of what you're saying, her job was a fitness show and looking good/being healthy - she was all over those "magical" things you're trying to be condescending about here - and she still wasn't happy, she still didn't like herself and struggled with how she looked.

All the butt/ass shots, were made intentionally for the director, to make the spectators felt unconfortable and also to make how Sue represents all women's hypersexualization showed in the TV actually. Margaret Qualley said in an interview that she used prostetic breast and butt, but specially in her breast because she doesn't have too much boobs. She mentioned the production made a great job! Demi Moore said the most difficut scene in the movie was the mirror shot before the date with Fred, I don't remember how many shots took it... and was that scene which created a tiktok trending. The shrimp scene where Dennis Quaid (the producer in the movie) was eating, was hillarious for Moore and him. He ate a pound of shrimp hahaha

His constant criticisms of the women’s appearances, awful comments about their bodies, & his laughter at their struggles just proved how women are perceived by men in a male dominated society. It’s incredibly eye opening to see the difference in reactions between male reviewers and female reviewers for this film.

So Margaret Qualley is the daughter of Andie MacDowell. She’s a pretty big actress and you would probably recognize her if you look her up. Also some good things I seen Margaret Qualley in before The Substance: Maid (an amazing mini series on Netflix from 2021) and she’s worked with Yorgos Lanthimos in both Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness. A lot of people really loved Poor Things and there are mixed reviews on Kinds of Kindness but I thought Kinds of Kindness was phenomenal. One of my favorite movies in the last year and I highly recommend!

It’s interesting that the Sue part of her is aware of her beauty. I don’t think most non celebrity woman realise they are beautiful whilst they are young….its a realisation that shocks you when you are older looking back at photos from your past. Or at least it was like this for me. I was so insecure about my looks & self worth when I was at my most beautiful it’s really sad looking back on it. As I’ve got older I’ve cared less & less about how society perceives me to the point where I give zero f**ks now. Fire Department provided a fire hose to get that effect showing liters of blood spraying everywhere. Which was then edited to add the realism with practical effects and animatronics.

GUYS. I am on my knees begging and pleading for yall to watch this director's first movie. It's called Revenge and it's on Shudder. It's more of an action movie, but it's my fav movie of all time and I think yall would love it. edited to add that there are basically no reactions to this movie and I just know the fans are starving for content about it 😭

I loved the hell out of this movie! This might be my favorite Demi Moore performance. Her angst scenes and descent into total dysmorphia and decrepitness was pretty amazing. I need more from this writer/director.

I seen that movie and they definitely are filmed the same way. She knows how to capture the female form very well
