Have an old craftsman drill press the same vintage as me, from the 50's. Never thought of this for a stop. New project as the factory stop is a pain in the you know what. Thank you for another great Saturday morning !

Great project! Way too hard and complicated for what is so easy to purchase, but what a grand idea. My Powermatic and DoAll drill presses have fancy OEM built in quick adjust stops, but my other drill presses use the thumb nut stops. I have never considered making quick stops for them, but I might have just earned a new shop project task. It might be simpler in my case to make a new stop threaded rod and thumb nuts to fit the commercially available Bridgeport quick stops. But you have me intrigued. You keep doing this to me. I wake up thinking my day is full of tasks, but it feels important to get in some recliner vicarious shop time. Then you give me a MORE IMPORTANT task to add to my list.😢

Nicely designed and simple which is all you need, all I did years ago on my small drill press is use a small metal spring clamp and bonded a nut which I cut in half and it's been working fine for years and the best solution for my Clarke drill press and only took me 30 minutes to make

Good morning Mr. Peterson. This video is just what I needed. My Bridgeport clone has a metric threaded shaft and an off the shelf rapid quill stop won't work. The threads are just close enough to the SAE threads that I can't simply rethread a store-bought stop, so you've given me another project to make. Thanks again for another great how to video!

The stop on my BP has a little button you push in that lets you freely slide it up and down the threaded rod. It doesn’t have the quick attach/detach functionality, but once it’s on it’s fast and easy to use. (Also, Kuh-nurling!) Mr Pete needs a Kuh-nurling T-shirt, or sticker, or something, lol.

I just finished a two-part video on the push button quill stop. It will be released in the near future. Much more difficult to make and install. I wish someone would design such a T-shirt or a sticker for me.

Great project as always! BTW, I know you’re probably not looking for more ideas, but a series on running a horizontal mill would be awesome. There is not much out there about these and all the your tutorial series have been great and well worth the investment.

I have been pondering that subject for a long, long time. But the amount of work involved in making a 40 chapter tutorialtutorial is mindblowing, and I’m not sure I’m up to it anymore. I originally intended to do this when I was given my. Clausing horizontal milling machine. I even went So far as to outline the chapter titles, but quite frankly, I have lost my followers, and have very few people watching my videos

Great stuff, I just watched part 2. Looking forward to making two. One for my Bridgeport and one for my Jet 17" drill press. When Enco was still around before being swallowed up and put out of business by MSC, you could buy these for $5. Henceforth, why I'm making vs. buying.

Leaving extra stock for cleanup is always improvement. Dunno that if I'd leave a ¼" on each end of a 1-½" part, but removing material is a lot easier than adding it, abom's expertise in that regard not withstanding.

I'm wondering if instead of putting an internal extension spring and the pinned hinge, you might just use a piece of spring steel on the end outside held in place by the threaded pins. I'll have to try making one like that.

I have the Magnum Sharpie markers in blue for makring and scribing. I tried the red and it just was not as dark as I would like it to be. Dykem has more pigment and works better so I will stick with the blue Sharpie. If only I owned a Bridgeport, my shop would be complete for my purposes.

Hi MrPete, inspired by one of your earlier videos, I made one of these about 4 years ago. I had to make one as in the commercial version the threaded hole is too large. My bench drill has an M10x1 thread. On my one the two knurled knobs hold the spring in place. I showed this quill stop on my video Bench Drill Upgrades about 7 months ago. Here is a link if you would like to take a look. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGjLh3RjgJ6fm8U Always watch your videos for knowledge and inspiration Cheers Nobby

The design could be simplified by using a non-captive pivot pin as used in bow spring calipers. One thru hole between the blocks, a pin with a small head on each end and some angle cuts on the back edge for opening relief (could be filed).
