"At one point I was at the lowest of the low and I went to church. During church I just decided "OK I am going to have a reset, I am going to fight my way back." So right there I started cleaning up my social media, putting limits on my phone and getting my calendar updated, those types of things. Then after church my friend invited me to stake choir and I decided to give it a chance. We sat down and sang the song "Be Still My Soul" and that was the second time in my life I felt that burning in the bosom, just straight out of the scriptures. An undeniable feeling, I just remembered it again with the peace and the hope and the optimism, the passion. All of those emotions just came flooding, in what I believe, to be the fruits of the spirit."
Bridger shares his inspiring story about his personal struggle with video gaming addiction and falling away from his faith after reading the CES letter. Join us on his journey back and how he overcomes his doubts.

As I parent, I (we) raise our children to be good choosers. It comes down to God is good. When we choose good, we fill our life with goodness and the results are comparable. I like the things you (Bridger) listed that the "Church" DOES. Volunteer, Serve, Give, Help, Love, Pray. These are things that are evidence of God's work and existence. Living a life based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ... hope, peace, non judgmental, tolerance, peace, obedience, truth, is a life filled with true joy. Fortunately, for my wife and I, we have always had the gift of a testimony and faith in Christ, but I am one who reasons, questions, and is logical, and all of the good that comes and results from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is proof to me that this is God's church. The tabernacle choir, Bishops, High Councilors, Stake Presidents, Relief Society Presidents, Temple Workers, Mission Presidents, Self Reliance Facilitators, and many, many more serve without pay! "Prove me now, herewith saith the Lord, if I will not open to you the windows of heaven and pour out blessings, more that you are able to receive" He wants us to challenge Him to see if our faith results in spiritual and temporal prosperity. There are so many advantages to getting on and staying on the Covenant Path. The Lord's way, makes life truly easy, compared to a life filled with sin, destructive behavior, anger, guilt, and addiction. Are there sinful people in the Church? Are there hypocrites? Do some people in the Church judge others wrongfully? Of course. Sick people go to a hospital and people who are out of shape go to the gym. The Church is like a gym where people can go to learn, improve, repent, and overcome.

Your church is literally the quantifiably least generous religion in America if not the world... It's not a secret the LDS church hordes nearly all of its money. It's under investigation in both Australia and Canada because they give such a teeny tiny percentage of the money they receive and use a bunch of other shady business practices to hide their money.

Loved this episode- Bridger said what I have told soo many of my friends who are losing their testimony: “if you want to believe the church is true, you will find all sorts of evidence that the church is true. If you want to believe that it’s not true, you will find all sorts of evidence that it’s not true. Ultimately, you get to CHOOSE what you believe!” It was sort of an ah-ha moment for me when I realized this. You can let go of all the anxiety of “proving it’s true in order to believe it”. Let that go! It’s impossible! Unless you see Christ himself, it’s impossible! Instead, ask yourself “what do you WANT to believe? What do you WANT in life?” And go that direction.

True, like the fine the church got charged for a small misdemeanor that isn't even a crime. The same harassment they just did to Trump.Nobody broke the law but the IRS spent four years since 2019 looking for a crime. Now the critics will cry fowl. Nobody is going to jail because it's a minor infraction not a crime. Trump's company got fined a million dollars for nearly the same thing and the liberals were mad because they couldn't make a crime out of practically nothing.

I think it is noteworthy that when the Savior was asking Peter who He was in Matthew 16:16-17, He said he was blessed because he learned it from the Father. Even though Jesus was spending quality time with him and doing lots of great miracles! Power comes as we learn how to commune with the Father and gain strength as we act in faith. I believe that is the ‘why’ of these faith testing situations the Lord let happen. To force us to learn how to access the power of a God that He aches for us to enjoy in every area of our lives. Not convincing by the arm of the flesh that has no helping or staying power. It is the perfect plan! We shouted for joy in the pre-existence for the growth that we could get no other way! Muscle ripping -> Muscle building.

Good interview, I wish the Book of Mormon would be emphasized more. So many people seek to prove or disprove the Restored Gospel by searching in the weeds. I feel the spirit when I read the Book of Mormon. Books and podcasts are helpful but to have a confirmation of the truthfulness of the church requires a testimony of the Book of Mormon and Joseph smith. I did like what Bridger said There is so much information out there on both sides it’s easy to get lost in the opinions of man and judging history through our self righteous naïve 2023 goggles. Those who feast on the book of Mormon, consistently partake of the sacrament, attend the temple, and keep their covenants are filled with joy and the spirit

Bridger’s experience mirrors my own. I wish so badly that those going through the complexity and doubt will see and feel the peace of making a conscience choice to believe. Contrary to the critics, the supposed contradictions don’t compel one to jettison your faith unless you choose to lean into your doubt. It’s a choice to reject or accept and I know the despair that comes from doubt and loss of faith but the peace and joy downstream of complexity are magnificent! Hold on to the heavenly witness you received. Don’t let the critics tell you your feelings deceived you. Remember your feelings were a response to the Holy Ghost. Feelings don’t testify, the Spirit bears witness and one can’t help but respond through feelings of pure joy. The critics can’t take that away nor can they reproduce the experience.

Bridger, thanks for being open and honest with your thoughts and beliefs. I haven't been involved with the church for almost 30 years. Many things I still believe in, but have been listening to some of the other voices out there that break down why the church cannot be true. It is good to listen to the "other" side. I'm beginning to realize that maybe some of these spiritual questions cannot be answered on logic and reason alone. There is certainly a different tone and feeling watching this. So, thanks for taking the time to share so that others like me can get a better understanding of how to seek out truth.

We see things differently. For me, I can use the Bible alone to see why the church is the only true church. For example, the Bible says that God gave to the New Testament church prophets and apostles. Only one church today has that organization. Another example is that the Bible says the New Testament saints were attending temple ceremonies. Only one church has temples today. There are tons of other examples. I just listed two.

Thank you both for your work. Faith is way more complex since the Internet and resources like these are so valuable. My mantra is “to whom shall I go?” There are 2 questions that get mixed up too often 1. Is the church based on factual events? 2. Are the teachings of the church based in truth and a guide for peace and happiness? 1. Is hard. 2. Is easy. The church is freaking awesome. Block out the negative, live the gospel, and love it. It’s not that the 1st question isn’t relevant, but I personally believe that faith will never come by personal study and logic. It’s an act of pride.

I hope the church changes its policies and that you can find happiness one way or the other. The black identity issue is way more complex and I can't say much beyond it's certainly a deal breaker for me. Even if the lds church was proven true, I would still have to morally not participate. I'm sure any just god would understand. Identity and moral issues aside the church isn't true based on fairly basic historical evidence. I doubt I would even need to leave the lds church website to shake your faith and challenge what you think you know about your church's history. I've always been able to separate my doubts and concerns with the church from my positive affirmations of truth and goodness. I'm at the point where no matter if any of the "deep doctrines" have any credibility, I can stay in this church simply knowing that Jesus Christ is my personal savior and that He died and was resurrected. I don't believe in all the doctrines of the LDS church but I've stayed faithful my whole life because the blessings I see in the church from righteous (but not overzealous) living cannot be ignored or denied. My life has truly been blessed being a discipline of Christ and the LDS church helps me live for my family and for others and that's good enough for me.

Seeing the damage done is heartbreaking… BUT it’s not him doing the damage, it’s Satan and people using their agency to follow him. I find SO MUCH PEACE when I take my struggles to Heavenly Father. I pour my heart out to Him! Sometimes He brings me peace and resolution immediately, someone’s months go by and a called authority addresses my issue in general conference for all the world to hear. I complain and rant to Him, I ask Him questions… then I decide to give it to Him to deal with and trust He will. He knows everything and we need to learn to trust Him. ❤

Wonderful. What's really going on in a lot of Wards and Stakes is that youth and young adults ARE coming back like this - we've see this over and over this past year in our stake. Many of them were affected by anti writings as they left. But they now have re-examined things. They discover what they read from antagonistic sources was not truthful. They miss the Holy Ghost and the Light of Christ in their lives, knowing that it is here in Christ's restored Church. We intrinsically know that life has eternal purposes. It's incredibly short. So much weighs in the balance. It's always possible to come back. We also experienced the return of a family friend, in his 50's, a return missionary out of the church for 25 years, now back, and feeling as if he never left.

@@livingtruth2374 The gospel is in I Corinthians 15:1-4. It is not a to-do list. Christ has already done the one work that was necessary to reconcile all mankind to God. Christ shed his blood on the cross, died and rose again. He paid the penalty for our sins in full. Christ said, "It is finished." The debt has been paid. Christ took all of my sins upon himself when he died on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness.... By repentance and faith alone in what Christ has already done for me on the cross, Christ has forgiven me of all my sins and has given to me his righteousness, which is the righteousness of God. I have peace with God. Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God. Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering Christ hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. I see the thought that if the LDS church is not true that the tendency is to not see or believe in God at all. I would like to suggest that God was God before any church was formed and he is manifest in other churches as well. I’m in an interesting spot currently, I’m an exmo elders quorum president that is now becoming affectionate towards the church again, I want to fellowship with but not be the same culturally believing member I once was. I’m willing to believe that it is true, but also willing to believe that much could be of man and not of God, I’m just not sure. I now love Jesus more than ever before! 🙏❤️

It’s the comfort trap that draws you in. Most humans have a longing to belong to a tribe. It goes back survival instinct, we are a communal species. I have felt the pull myself back myself many times because of the people. My mind however is now more rational, my main problem is not just a few questions about the Church, it’s foundation, history, conflicting doctrine, claims of the one truth, and other issues. If there were a few issues, I could work with it, there are hundreds when you actually do the research. I was lied to and gaslighted about things that happened. The Lords true Gospel should be easy to understand. It should not have so many contradictions. In the end to me I have realized it is just another system of control. It’s much easier to walk with my creator with out a middle man telling me what is right for me. Like Jiminey Cricket said “let your conscience be your guide”

You know i am wondering if the "history" which isn't that is taught in public schools is harming testimonies because the concerns raised by CES Letter and others are easy for me to dismiss because I studied history back in a day when perfection of text and individual people was impossible. I dunno my degree backed up the history of the early church. Do you think that could be an issue? I am sooooooo grateful you took the time to find the truth. Thank you for sharing.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone express what Bridger did, the way he did, which is something that I have thought and said to others many times: right now, there is no absolute proof either way (with a few very rare exceptions) and it all comes down to a question of faith. God PURPOSELY set up this world so that faith is a NECESSITY and the miracle comes after the exercising of faith. I would much rather believe and end up being wrong, than choose not to believe and end up being wrong. There is no real "up side" to not believing, it leads only to selfishness and living in a way that benefits no one. However, if you choose to believe, then you live a life of goodness and helping others and benefiting society and creating a better environment for however many people you influence during your time here. Have Faith, Believe, and the proof will come in due time; and you'll be so glad you did.

I never expected that even the church be perfect. I did expect honesty. I'm still strong in my faith with Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I have lost all trust in the truth claims of the lds church that I loved so much. It was like losing a loved one. I was crushed. Today I have put all my trust in the only one who saves and that is Jesus. I still miss my lds church community at times. Genuine question here…based on that logic, why couldn’t the Jehovah’s Witness be the one true religion? Or Seventh Day Adventist? Or any of the other dozens of religions who claim to be the one true path back to God and or eternal lives with our families? They all have major issues with their truth and authority claims and they use the same argument; it requires faith. I have heard dozens of very powerful testimonies from members of other faiths who KNOW their religion is the one true way because the spirit bore witness to them, their lived experiences, and ultimately their faith. What makes the LDS church different if despite the legitimate evidence that would challenge its truth and authority claims, we simply need to rely on faith? It seems that the same LDS member who makes that claim, would make the same claim about JW or SDA had they been born into one of those religions…

@psmith535
@psmith535 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonroyce295 it would appear that way, but none of that is true. Joseph fought against Polygamy nearly every day of his life. He spoke out against it both in public and in private conversations. Joseph never had any type of sexual relationship or marriage relationship with anyone other than Emma. It was Brigham Young that loved the idea of polygamy. Joseph had one wife and only one wife. Brigham had 56 wives, and 10 of them divorced him. The story of the angel that supposedly came to them to force them to practice Polygamy is all hogwash. It’s a story that cropped up 30 years after Joseph’s murder. The story about Emma watching Joseph have sex with a young girl through a crack in the barn door is hogwash also. That story was fabricated by Oliver Cowdrey who was upset because he had been excommunicated. Emma swore until the day she died that story was not true. The CES letter claims that Joseph had 38 wives. Recently every blood line was checked scientifically for Joseph’s genetics using DNA testing. The final results were that 0.0% were connected to Joseph Smith genetically. That’s substantial proof that he was telling the truth even though many other people claimed he practiced Polygamy. Just because other people said things doesn’t make them true. Just because people wrote in their journal that they were married to him or that he sired their children, doesn’t make any of it true. All of the stories about Joseph being with other women are third, fourth and fifth hand information. One of the stories is secondhand information. Joseph always claimed that he only had one wife, surely he knew how many he had. All of the stories about Joseph practicing plural marriage are lies and rumors. Joseph was a great man and a great leader, he was truly a man of integrity. God chose him to be the prophet and leader and to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ. God chose the right man. God would have never chosen a con artist, an adulterer, a sexual deviant or a man with no integrity. I know that Joseph is Gods prophet, I know the first vision really took place and that Joseph saw the Father and the Son, I know that Joseph translated the Book of Mormon and I know the Book of Mormon is true. I have spent literally thousands of hours researching this exact subject. I have found much of church history to be inaccurate and conflicting. Why the brethren don’t clean it up I do not know. Like I said before lies and rumors don’t make true history. I don’t have any love for Brigham Young. It’s obvious he was a horn dog, and loved the idea of being surrounded by many women. He taught many others that polygamy was a true principle. Joseph and Brigham disagreed greatly in many of their beliefs. Brigham also loved the idea of slavery. He openly stated that blacks are a lesser people. Joseph taught that we are all Gods children and that owning another person is wrong. Joseph taught blacks the gospel, baptized them, gave them the priesthood and encouraged him to look forward to the time the temple would be finished so they could receive their endowment. After Joseph‘s death Brigham changed all of that. It wasn’t God that didn’t want blacks to have the priesthood and temple blessings, it was Brigham Young. And the priesthood was restored to the earth to be received by everyone, no matter what color they were. That’s what Joseph taught.

I can relate to Bridger’s experience so much! Yes, 99% of people who join and stay in the church is because they wanted it to be true and choose to believe. After all my studies, the main problem for me is that I see very little correlation between the truthfulness of the book of Mormon, and calling of the prophet Joseph Smith, to the truthfulness of the current church. If Joseph, Brigham, Heber, and Russell were suddenly in the church together. I think they would immediately excommunicate each other and fight over control of the corporation. The three who lost would probably start their own churches. It is confusing how much the doctrine can change and people don’t seem to notice. Sad. Thanks for the interview.

@@kristinrichmond8185 I used to believe and teach that doctrine remained the same while tradition and policy changed. Then I allowed myself to study church history outside of the correlated material. From reliable historians that thoroughly document their work. I am still a faithful active member, but yes, I believe the doctrine has changed drastically and will continue to change. Here are some examples I have been studying recently. A man must be a polygamist to achieve the highest degree of the celestial kingdom Adam is God the Father Hundreds of changes to the book of Mormon and doctrine and covenants People of African descent were not valiant in the pre existence Joseph was a polygamist, then he wasn’t, now he is again Denying baptism to children of gay parents by unanimous revelation then reversing it. Blood atonement ; only way to be forgiven for denying the Holy Ghost or murder is to have blood spilled Zion is in Independence Missouri; the faithful will one day walk back to find all the Missourians annihilated. Every endowed person must seek opportunity to avenge the blood of Joseph and Hyrum on the Missourians. Nature of Holy Ghost (original section 130 stated HG cannot dwell in us) Calling and Election was a personal visit from the Savior. Now it is a secret ceremony in the temple called Second Anointing which Jesus does not attend. Garments must be full length, wool, and lace up in front Mental and physical handicap was because of unfaithfulness in pre-existence. Now it is a protection because of valiance in pre-existence. Gregory A Prince; scientist and faithful LDS historian stated “If they take the time to read their own history, they will understand that not a single, significant LDS doctrine has gone, unchanged throughout the entire history of the church…” My relationship to the church has become much more healthy since accepting the fact that everything in it changes, including its doctrine. God still works in the church, just as he does anywhere his children are found.

I am a former Baptist minister and the son of a Baptist minister we both joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 53 years ago. I asked God once, "how is it that I felt I was saved as a Baptist minister" and the Holy Spirit said to me", "you were saved, but to what Kingdom", I knew them that it was the Terrestrial Kingdom, where none are given or taken in marriage but are as the angels, neither male or female as there are no family units. So the Catholica and protestant's Heaven is the Terrestrial Kingdom which also is for those that believe in Jesus Christ but lack the Priesthood. The Priesthood is required to receive the ordnances in the Holy Temple that gives us the knowledge to enter the presence of Heavenly Father which is Celestial.

My issue still remains the same as I'm watching this the second time... The facts that were shown to me, coupled with my personal beliefs, do not lend themselves to the Book of Mormon (and by extent D&C and Pearl) being true. I do not like Jeremy Runnells, nor do I approve of the way he talks about Church members, but I did find a bunch of items to study, based on his work. Mind you, I don't openly trust what I find on the internet. So my research took a long time. And not until after all my findings had been strongly researched and prayed about to seemingly no end, did I decide to leave the Church. But after learning the things I did, I cannot see any way it can be true. The "true" Church is the body of people who believe in and follow Christ. Not a religious denomination or a sect, or even a building. I still love my neighbors and members whom I've known along my almost 30 years as a member. But I've come to realize that two Christians do not need to be of the same exact faith to be friends and fellowship together. All of my family are still members. And my relationship with each of them is even stronger now, because I am personally living what I know to be true. Leaving has been the absolute hardest thing I have ever gone through, but I feel so much more connected to Christ now, and have such a greater understanding of who God is, and what so many things actually mean, as opposed to books full of mystery. I love you all, and I am happy you all have Jesus in your lives.

I feel like God won’t love me unless I’m perfect, if I’ve “done all I can do” (to quote the BOM, grace starts: after ALL we can do). Over the years I made daily check off lists to make sure I’m doing everything the prophets say I should do. Temple work, personal prayer, family prayer, FHE, 4-6 callings, genealogy, grinding wheat, sewing own clothes, garden and canning, exercising, fasting, clean house, looking nice, budgeting to stay out of debt, personal and family scripture study, talks, visiting teaching, keeping a journal, not getting angry, go to all the Gen Conf sessions, pay a full tithe, obey the WoW, etc. I’m exhausted just writing that. Whenever I pull away from the gospel, and just believe in grace, and not all the works stuff, the suicidal feelings go away. I want so badly to be like most Mormons, and be able to NOT do that list (above) that the prophets have talked about non-stop since I was a kid in the 1970s, and have a clean conscience.
