If you put the oil first, and follow up with the moisturizer, it will not be able to penetrate the oil; hence, you do not get the benefits of the moisturizer at all. So, moisturizer first - oil - SPF

If actives are used and they are sealed in, that can be risky and can damage the barrier . I tried it over retinol and my skin was flakier than ever .

To anyone reading this however: For every Sunday Riley product there is a better (and cheaper) product out there, SR products contain so many irritants (fragrant plant oils, denatured alcohol, octocrylene...) that lead to premature aging. Just try The Ordinary, The inkey list, CeraVe or Korean brands instead. Glossier have improved their formulations, too.
