in the late 70s the train bridge operator norm robertson almost died. there was a fire by the control house and at the time on the centre swing span. norm almost jumped into the fraser river, he was really terrified. thankfully he was rescued. the control house burnt down n is now on the new west side shore

In winter 1975, strong winds broke a barge loose and knocked down a section of the New Westminster Bridge (replacement was hump-shaped), recall seeing from the Patullo Bridge when travelling to school.

Yes, a log barge owned by Swiftsure Towing, whose dock and office were just down river , on the New West side of the Fraser River.
