Interesting. In my country we are so much stricter. I would never put my baby in the jumper, walker or activity center. And especially would never use a baby seat. Not even a 10 minutes a day. All the physiotherapist in my country I’ve talked to are very strictly against practicing sitting. And I agree with that based on the research. It is interesting to see how it’s different in every country.

The same in Poland. The jumper, walker, etc. were used here in the past and were the cause of many malformations (at least according to the research I've read, and what's interesting - most of the research was done in USA :-) ). Sitting, as well as crawling or walking, should result from the natural developmental process, not placing the child in "helpers" that never simulate real conditions. My favorite phrase when it comes to parenting: be supportive, but most of all don't disturb! :-)

@simonasmahlikova79923 жыл бұрын
So true. And what about the baby carriers? Ergobaby and Babybjorn is so popular in America as far as I know. But it is overly expensive garbage that hurt babies. Elastic or woven wrap is much better for the first months. Baby carriers are also really good but it is necessary to follow basic rules (M position, C curved back, fabric from one knee to another, soft back and no firm neck collar).

The only things I used for my daughter was educational toys from Monti Kids, which is a montessori program from age 0 to 2 years old. The Montessori Method addresses your child’s cognitive, physical, linguistic, social, and emotional development. I did not use walkers, seating trainings or any other products. 100% agree. We did the same for our daughter and I feel she was free to concentrate on what she was ready to do from day to day instead of being pushed by us stressed out parents. My family is 100% against walkers because of their experience with me, not even because of the development issue. I fell down a flight of stairs because I was in my walker and somehow knew how to open then gate to the steps (dad pulled SuperDad and literally flew down the stairs somehow past me and caught me before I landed). My bfs mom wanted to get our 6m one and I told him and her this and now she’s against it. I got lucky, but some other babies have gotten majorly injured. My dad had a bruise on the back of his shoulder for 6 years later and had to get surgery to remove it. I told this to a friend of mine with hers and she laughed and didn’t believe me till her daughter almost did the exact same thing. Walkers are never okay in my family.

Ok honest question here. My son is 3mo and I just started him facing outward in my Ergobaby Omni 360 carrier. It has straps to adjust to better support the angle of the legs, to better support the hips. My baby does not tolerate being carried facing inward, and does not tolerate being put down at all. He has been loving facing outward in the Ergobaby carrier and until I watched this video, I felt it was a God-send. Ergobaby says to face them out only when they have good head and neck control, which my baby does, and I trusted that this company cared about the ergonomic support for babies and their development. What am I missing, what am I getting wrong?

About the upseat... the best is no seat before they are ready..in my country (Czech Republic) these seats like bumbo or upseat are not common and discouraged the same way as walkers or jumpers.. the best way is to wait until the baby learns to sit on his own and not to sit him up before he and his spine is ready...

The upseat is cruel. You try sitting with your legs spread like that for 15 minutes without being able to close them. How awful. If a baby’s spine is developed enough, they will sit up on their own. Hey I’m a new Dad and apparently doing everything wrong. My son is 4 months old and we have had him in the ergo baby carrier, facing forward for the past month. He passionately hates facing inward. Even when just being carried. He wants to see the world. There are very few places and positions that he is truly happy in and this is his absolute favorite. It’s really been a huge help to use this for walks and the one thing we can rely on when he’s fussy. My question is: Exactly how bad is this for his hip development? Is it worth sacrificing everyone’s sanity and the one thing he enjoys? Is there a safe way to carry him front facing at this age or exercises we can do with him to make up for walks facing forward?

Hi my son is the same, he wants to be carried forward so he can see the world around him. I was looking forward for him to reach 6 months and put him in the carrier forward position, but my pediatrician (we live in EU) was completely against it and said I should never use it. I hope it helps 😊

He's now 21lbs and I wore my daughter into toddlerhood so it does provide support for wearer too...

All these things are pretty well known back in my home country but I feel like they’re not spoken about enough in the west (UK, US etc). If I may, I will dare to disagree with point 2. The physiotherapists back at home actually recommend not to sit your baby until they learn it on their own completely. They spine isn’t ready, they sit all curled down, can’t breathe properly and their hips suffer too. Of course, the upseat is still better than all the other seats out there, I’m just sharing what I know. I believe we all do our best for our little ones

What about chair that vibrate? I noticed my baby would slouch in it and then added some padding that help her sit straight. Is this safe?

Little Love Bug Co makes really great soft, flexible soled shoes. It's all my kiddos wear.

I usually put my baby in a sleeper hold. Usually sends him to sleep in a couple of minutes. Now he is in the care of DCFS.

Hello! Have you heard anything about baby bjorn bouncer and how it affects development?

I was wondering about the bumbo. We were given one and it just seemed unsafe & was awkward how it pushed the legs upwards

I agree with you but the timeline is different for each baby on point 1,2,3 Our baby start to walk by herself in between 7-8 month. I strongly agree about mittens and shoes. We never put any mitten on her hand and never put shoes before 7 month. Lightly dress her, absolutely no walker.

Hi Bridget! From what age to what age do you use the upseat? I'm assuming it could be used as an eating chair, when would you switch to a high chair and which would you recommend?

I have to use mittens sometimes so my baby can't pull his NG tube out, it seemed to be hindering some of his development, now ONLY put mittens on him when we're in the car or at night so he can't pull his tube out, but leave his hands out when I'm with him so we can play
