It is wonderful to see we have still got efficient teams of engineers that work hard. The heritage of the UK is still strong. All of you on the boats must have felt a massive lift to moral to see such a major step towards becoming afloat completed. I noticed the water level had risen even before they started the 2nd dam on your side. Not long now until you will be back off on your travels.

Question out of curiosity: would now be a good time to dredge the canal and remove any dangerous debris? After all, there's no water in it, so it should be a little easier to get done?

Looking at the Wikipedia entry for Cofferdams is really fascinating. Coffer comes from the Latin Cofinus meaning basket. Also of interest…the guys down in the canal bed are wearing dry suits as you may wear for diving. Coffer dam building may require quite a bit of underwater construction so I believe we are looking at an extremely skilled group of men not simply scaffolders. Fantastic vlog! Thanks.

Hi Josh, Diane and Andy, the company I used to work for about 45 years ago, we had a contract with a company in Ferndown in Dorset called ‘Leigh Flexibles’, they manufactured these flexible dams. We made dozens and dozens of those frames for them. (Similar design). Great that you are keeping us informed on the progress of getting you guys afloat, hopefully not too long now. All the best, Chris

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting. As for your propeller it should be fairly easy to sort out. Here are the steps to fit it. Clean the shaft and inside the prop on the mating areas. No dings or raised spots to be felt. Clean and shiny. Make sure the key sits down nicely into the key way. (I dont think your key is a Woodruff key" you have a straight key by the looks of it.) A Woodruff key looks like circle chopped in half. Take the key out and make sure it slides though the key way in the prop nicely. It should sit on the bottom of the ways in both parts. Slide the prop on the shaft with NO key. The prop should slide on the shaft to within a couple of mm of where it needs to live. DO NOT knock it on. Fit the key into the shaft it should be just a firm push in without banging it. Put some anti seize grease on the shaft. Grease or Vaseline will do the job if no antiseize. Slide on the prop until it goes back to where it was fitted earlier without banging it. If it does not go right up to the mark file the top of the key carefully until it just fits to the previous place. Fit the right amount of washers/spacers for the nut to fit where you can slide in the split pin. The nut needs to be tight at that point before the splitpin is fitted. If you have to hammer the prop it is not fitted correctly. The taper if fitted correctly will hold the prop on the shaft when running forward gear even without a key. Think of a tapered drill in a drill press it has no key to hold it in but still drills without slipping. Job done. IHTH. I have fitted dozens of props over my career. If I were closer I would come and fit it for you. I hope yop can get it done before the water rises in the canal. It should take less than an hour to do. ATB good luck.
@46spanner12 күн бұрын
Above is excellent advice, if you don’t do this then only the key will be carrying the torque to drive the propeller, it will quickly shear and the shaft will continue to rotate but not the propeller…..

yep, they are. And the best part is that they can be installed in water too. In the demonstration video was an example of sealing an side of an canal, to work on a draining tunnel./ Hence, calling these guys in the moment of noticing the breach, they would have stopped the water till evening, including transport of equipment. How much damage would have been avoided, compared with the actual version of stopping the water in a week?

@retrorevolution6534 If you understand it why do you say all that water? it is not all that water, but just 2 meters head. It does not matter if there is 1 meter of water behind the tarp, or the ocean, I mean 40 000 kilometers of water.

Great vlog, you could see the water rising on the timelapse video's. The drone footage was brilliant from the frost on the fields to the bags been removed were all clear and easy to see. great commetry describing what was happening too. What a strange place for that broadbeam to be moored opposite the winding hole, has anyone checked no one is dead onboard, I just don't think an owner wouldn't of been in contact as they must surely be monitoring their boat and its location and know of the breech, even if they are abroad.
@GeoffGosling11 күн бұрын
To moor it opposite a winding hole say a lot about the owner but that broad beam shouldn’t have been on the canal in the first place as it isn’t licensed. It will be interesting to see what happens to it when the canal refills. Hope there is someone on hand to make sure it’s well secured. Don’t want it drifting off into those temporary dams.
