Bridgewater Canal Collapse Nr Dunham Massey

A section of the canal's embankment near Little Bollington close to Dunham Massey collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday (1 January) morning, after severe rain fall during the New Year's period.
This footage was captured four days later on the 4th January showing the devastation left by the collapse.

Peel Holdings, one of the most corrupt corporations in the UK will try their best to wash their hands of it but I doubt anyone could purchase such a 'property' without any contractual clause to maintain, keep in serviceable condition and repair as necessary being in place. Bridgewater canal is an essential waterway and at 264 years old, is one of the Top Ten oldest canals in England being built around 1761.

Aerial shots are amazing that's a brutal collapse and the flooding and silt onto the fields is going to be a huge issue.

Thanks very much. Yes, it's a devastating event, with many knock on's. Really feel sorry for the live-aboard boaters who've been left literally high and dry, and doesn't sound promising for the canal to be ever fully restored at the moment.

Thank you. It's a devastating event, and major loss to the network. Really feel sorry for the live-aboard boaters who've been left literally high and dry. Really hope they do restore it, as it's a significant route for tourism and locals alike, but i agree the fact the Peel now own it, means they may well right it off, can only hope some other business investor chips in.

Let’s face it, this is the end of the Bridgewater canal for the foreseeable future,and all together if it continues in private ownership. The insurance claims and litigation will take years to resolve. We can only hope that the infrastructure of the ship canal has been better maintained. But I feel sure the “ Good old boys “ will rally around like with RBS to make sure the costs come from the taxpayers pocket.

Peel holding owns the manchester ship canal and there not maintaining that neither and no ships go down it any more there are four swing bridges in warrington and they all need repairing peel holdings dont want to foot the bill they want us the taxpayer to pay for it is a shame about the bridgewater canal breach this water way is an asset and enjoyed by many people shame on you peel holdings

No, no earthquakes happened at the time of the breach or in the location of the breach. What you are seeing is erosion caused by the canal water.
