More of this please. Look for old people who can tell this story from oral history. Weldone Moses Elaigwu, you've researched more than many of us.

I am fascinated by the extent of influence that the historical concept of the Kwararafa Empire has had on our perceptions. It is important to note that being a part of a specific empire does not necessarily imply direct ancestral origins from that region. Just as the Greeks were part of the Roman Empire without their origins being Roman, or the Ikweres and Ijaws being part of the ancient Benin Empire without originating from there, the same principle applies to the Idoma people. The Idoma people's rich culture, encompassing songs, dance, food, and dress, does not bear any resemblance to the Jukims or other tribes who were also part of the Kwararafa Empire. Instead, their similarities are more aligned with their Igala and Igbo neighbors. Therefore, it is essential for us to trace our roots and establish our true ancestral heritage. This is the reason why the people from Ogbadibo, for example, do not believe they are from the Kwararafa region. It is plausible that our search for identity led us to associate ourselves with the Kwararafa Empire. Furthermore, it is worth acknowledging that the Igala people were also once part of the Kwararafa Empire until they rebelled against the Jukuns' rule. This historical context adds another layer of complexity to our understanding of the cultural landscape in our region.

I'm from Ogbadigbo in Orakamu and i've been tracing my ancestral root, so far we are part of the Kwarafara but with great influence in the last 100 years is from our Igbo brothers. Seat an Enugu man and Ebonyi man and make them start speaking their dialect, it is very comparable with the dialect of the Orakamu's from Ogbadigbo. I have also done a lot of DNA work and we are more related to our kogi, Edo (Aganadebo region), Enugu North and Ebonyi North region. The idoma people are mostly peaceful and too accommodating hence allowing foreigners take our identity without us realizing.

If there’s one thing common amongst ancestors in ancient times is that they were always moving… either because of food, conflict or wat ever

Thank you so much, oinem. My grand mother said we were and still are one. What she called the idoma attire then was "Okwoji" made from' Otachi-Otaochi-i.e woven on sticks or wood. It was indigo and a darker shade of sky blue the pattern was circular and not this red and black stripe that is commonly used today. It was the most expensive attire back then. I can still mention some people who had Okwoji back then then in Ogobia, Ugboju. Why I am saying this, is just to buttress the fact that we are kwararafan. This Okwoji, is still being used in Niger and Taraba state. ❤ opi toha ki' doma- Ogobu ki'doma❤. PEACE!
