Set up an offshore trust, then create a holding company under the trust. That company runs your crypto business. Unless you receive income from that holding company, you pay 0 tax.

You mentioned that crypto gains/losses can either fall under business income/loss, or capital gain/loss, and that Koinly will generate a Schedule 3 for capital gains. Is this Schedule 3 the same form that we would we use for TurboTax if someone has been day trading (and therefore considered "business income" instead of "capital gains")? I am confused about coin swaps being a taxable event. If I swap $10000 of BTC to ETh, it's taxable say at 20 percent. So $2000 in tax. Say I saw back to ETH again, another $2000 owing. Now continue that pattern 3 more times for a total of a $10000 total tax bill. I cash out my BTC to CAD and pay 12000 in taxes!!!!! WTF

Something I'm not clear on after watching this video is what a "gain" is. I'll explain what I mean with an example. If I buy 10,000 worth of BTC and then sell it for the exact amount I bought it at, did I realize a gain? Or would I not be taxed because I technically did not make anything? I essentially just held BTC and took back out what I put in. With the limited knowledge I have it sounds like if you "cash Out" you owe capital gains tax... If that is hypothetically the correct answer then it would be literally impossible to realize a profit day trading within only several percentage points. Since buying and selling with the ebb and flow of BTC would each time be taxed at the 40% (I'm rounding for sake of my example). It seems then with this hypothetical that you would have to realize a 41% increase to ever make a profit... and that is hard to come by from what I've seen so far. ... I hope I'm misunderstanding this immensely....

So even if you haven't withdrawn anything from your binance account and converted it to fiat you still need to pay taxes on that? Isn't that Unrealized profits? What happens if the whole market is down and your investments are down but you haven't sold? It doesn't seem logical to pay taxes on something you haven't realized yet

Not if you're only buying and holding. But if say you traded some BTC for ETH, they consider that as if you had sold BTC and then bought ETH. So you'd pay taxes on the BTC you "sold" if it had gone up in price from when you bought it.

If i have some crypto like SAITAMA in a small exchange like GATE iO and I convert it to a USDT TETHER and transfer that to another exchange and buy Saitama again. Would I get taxed heavily in the end? I was thinking to do it that way because if i transfer to Saitama coin from gate io directly to another exchange they cut Billions of coins as fees which is a lot of money. You'd be triggering a taxable event, but how much you get taxed depends on the gains, i.e. how much has the price of Saitama changed between when you bought it and when you converted it. If the price has gone up a lot, then you'd be paying more in tax
