Thanksgiving safety message from the Commanding General, Southwestern Division, USACE, Brig. Gen. Paul Owen.
This year is flying by. It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving holiday is already upon us. Because the year is going so fast, today I'm going to skip the history lesson and go right to the safety brief.
Thanksgiving weekend is the most traveled weekend of the year with increased potential for accidents, so plan accordingly to reduce your risk. Late night, weekend travel presents one of the highest risk factors, particularly when fatigue or alcohol is involved. Every year senseless injuries occur as a result of speeding, unsafe vehicles and over indulgence in alcohol. So please ensure if you travel, you wear your seat belts and you don't drink and drive. Distracted driving is just as dangerous, so resist the urge to check your smartphone while you're driving.
I'm thankful for the many things this Thanksgiving Day and I am sincerely thankful for the SWD family and your unwavering support to our partners and stakeholders. Thank you for all your hard work. Stay safe and have a happy Thanksgiving. Mission... People... Teamwork... Pacesetters!
