My self pulling Troybilt is doing the very same thing. I have cleaned the carb over and over. I can blow clear threw everything, put a new air filter, new plug, cleaned the air filter housing and little jet holes, primer is clean and good. I can spray some engine starting fluid into the sparkplug hole and it will start right up, but no gas coming through the little brass pipe in the carb but the bowl and needle valve have gas and are working right. I am really at my wits end with this mower. Watching your video again now to see what else I can try.

Arch it's the OLD MAN from Eliminator Performance #1 OEM gaskets always work better than aftermarket but we always soak them in hot water to help soften them which allows the groove to be formed into the gasket when you tighten the air filter plate onto the carb. #2 if the original gasket has the groove well formed and was working we may install a new gasket with the original gasket still against the air filter plate. After 9 years in business we have only used gasket maker once on a slightly deformed air filter plate and that was applied to the outer area of the groove ridge in a minor amount using a wooden skewer. #3 Soaking in hot water then installing onto the air filter plate and using a wide flat punch and hammer against the gasket in the groove area only and light blows helps form the groove in the gasket once done it never has failed us yet. Hope this helps you save a lot of time on your next repair. Keep them coming i did enjoy watching and know how frustrating this can be!

Thanks,,, Most of my gasket plates are warped, I clean them, clean out the push bulbs because they are always full of gunk and put a fresh gasket on with a very small amount of silicone then put them aside for another day.. Works great. These are old dirty machines,,, having one already complete is working out for me!!

Have never had to do that and hope we never have to. We suggest ethanol free fuel use to all of our customer's, the ones that don't listen are back for carb cleanings a year or two later. Normally they then buy fuel stabilizer off us and get ethanol free fuel and when they need a service it never involves a fuel issue so invoices are relatively cheap for an oil change, air filter if needed, clean and gap the plug, clean and undercoat deck bottom and sharpen and balance the blade. Happy customer's spread the word, no need to advertise.
@moodymac72972 жыл бұрын
I just use a small piece of duct tape over the groove (but not covering where the air enters the carb). This seals the air passage independent of the gasket. It also helps the gasket seal better due to being warped. Very fast, I have even done this if I feel it may be a problem.

I have been fighting this primer issue for a week on my Briggs 6.0 hp push mower. I did exactly what u did on the video with the silicone sealer. And used only the one gasket.. Next morning, I could feel resistance on the primer bulb.. works perfect… that housing needs to be re-designed by Briggs. I also had the “surging issue” .. I replaced the carburetor and no change.. ended up being the coil. It ohmed out at 4.5 but had corrosion at the spark plug end that could not clean up. After 10 min run time, it would die.. had to cool down to start. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I got some relief finally.

Kudos! Excellent video. Two primer base gaskets for awhile...but, what's next? I did the similar process. Trying to unwarp bulb base did not work. Actually, I carefully cut out an aluminum foil gasket and attached (using automotive gasket sealer applied by toothpick) around bulb air channel. Interesting. I have been having the same problem with my Briggs & Stratton primer. @@TheNovaJohn I cleaned out the small hole with a small wire and compressed air. Then I taped down the gasket so no air would escape when priming. This fixed it. The point of two gaskets is to close the air gap, so a piece of tape over that section is even more effective.

I have same type of air filter assembly. My problem was because of the vented primer bulb. I bought a new one with no hole. Didn't work. Fought with it once I switched back. I totally rebuilt the carb. Cleaned the carb 4x. Sprayed in one hole and came out another so all holes are clear. Did the air thing and gas sprayed out the orifices. When I put some gas in the cylinder it ran for a few seconds and stopped. So, I don't know if it's a bad carb or didn't run long enough to create a vacuum to get the carb primed or can a bad backing plate make it not run. Bought a new backing plate and still won't prime. Going to try your RTV trick. What brand RTV did you use and is it gas resistant?

Check the tube/manifold that the carb connects to..Ya gonna need to take off the pull cover.. Check for cracks and tighten the bolts that hold it down, they are always loose and cause leaks! Tighten the head bolts especially around the exhaust valve, they cause leaks as well. I often test run my machines without the primer plate and often show this on my other videos. Check out this newer version of this video..Good luck! Bottom line is your not getting fuel! Check the tank and hose too! usually dirt and crap! kzbin.info/www/bejne/anqTop1olpWCg5I

Alright...hhmm, I bought one of these just last year and it's already acting funky. It primes but won't stay running unless i hold my finger over the hole in the primer bulb. Weird but it must be sucking too much air and probably has something to do with this gasket mess.
@TheNovaJohn2 жыл бұрын
It wont have anything to do with this gasket as the seal here is for the priming action. Your not far off however; it may be getting air in from the O ring or a Loose Manifold Tube. To tell, spray gummout around behind the primer plate, if it continues to run and shuts off when you stop spraying there ya go, one more piece of info It can also just be dirt in the carb, take the carb off and remove the gas tank, clean all, check these things and re-test! good luck and thanks for watching!

w0w Arch... I have been fighting this same problem for years.... such a simple situation but dang!! bought two OEM back plates... bought 10 or more gaskets... and jus like you,, this sucker still would not prime... so I figger I have already used about half of the gaskets trying different things... I cut the bottom section of one gasket jus below the two mounting bolt holes and used the rtv very little on the fabric and put it in place on the back plate after cleaning it with 99% alcohol.... I set it up in the garage adding some weight on the lower piece of gasket... this morning added a new gasket and reassembled..... FINALLY it works!! I know that I could have taken it in to a shop for repair, but I would not learn anything by having them fix it.... I want to fix it... and with your encouragement... it is DONE!!!! ♥️ Thanks 🎯
