Hello Macc Man, I used to go from Halifax to Brighouse regularly in the 1970's and 1980's, The Lloyd's Bank used to be the White Swan pub, the White Swan hosted a dark event when the sixteen-year-old son of a landlord hung himself in the attic above the pub. The fancy building housing the dry cleaners on Bethal Street was the old Salvation Army Citadel before they moved to their present location on King Street opposite Brearley's Solicitor's, which was The Roundhouse pub and then The Round Tavern. The Old Ship Inn, used to be The Prince of Wales, it was constructed in 1926 using old ship timbers from the mid-19th century battleship, HMS Donegal, so The Old Ship Inn isn't as old as it looks or as it's name suggests. The Black Bull is the oldest pub in Brighouse, dating back to 1740. The 47 Grains used to be called The Black Swan, other Brighouse pubs I used to fequent that have gone are The Clifton Arms, The Robin Hood, The Stott's Arms, The Albion, The Martin's Nest, The Woodlands and the Junction 26 nightclub, it is now the Artisan Heating showroom.

My home town Macc. Loved your Video. Thankyou. Ps. ROKT climbing Gym used to be Thomas Sugden's Flour Mill many years ago. It's a well known landmark in Brighouse. Wetherspoon's was the Park Chapel before it was converted. It's a shame you didn't go in, as they still have all the Pews and old church Organ pipes up above. Brearley's solicitors used to be The Roundhouse Pub. Come back again soon.

I’ve been in the tall buildings, they were grain silos, the company was Thomas Sugden and sons. The empty buildings adjacent to the silos were the old offices. The canal was one of the most important link in the textile industry, Brighouse was a transport hub , in fact the railway station as was, technically was in Rastrick, the river deviding Rastrick and Brighouse. So when trade moved from canals to trains , this place had a massive sidings and was built before other towns and cities. So when trade moved from trains to road… you guessed it, junction 25 on the M62 with a large industrial estate next to it. After the Second World War, the unemployment figures stood at 1 for a time, and he was an Irish man living in Brighouse !
