I'm 70, a lifelong rocker/biker and still riding and rockin'.It keeps me young! It's fantastic to see people keeping their lifestyle, fashion and music alive in the modern sanitized world, no matter what side of the mod/rocker divide you're on! I can really appreciate the pride mods have in their scooters, a lot of work's gone into most of them!

Brighton can be great and that weekend can be great - however it's turning into a middle aged couples theme weekend. There are many on the scene who 'live the life' but many others who quite clearly aren't too sussed on what it is all about. Still, some lovely scoots in that video.

Someone said Roger Daltrey doesn’t like the association of his music with the Mod culture. Get him to come and play Won’t Get Fooled Again in the town with his band The Who. Everybody will be dancing if they play that song, but it is probably criminally over-looked in their catalogue of music. I’ve always loved it since the first time I ever heard it and I am no Mod. It is a stomper of a tune. If they play that song, everybody in the town will be dancing, including me if I ever got there. RD is both a rock singer and a Mod in one.

He’s a rock singer now Matt, but he started off (high numbers -early Who ) as a mod .. that’s the music “this lot” adore … you very rarely hear them playing anything after ‘Tommy ‘.. I have seen The Who twice … there is always a split audience.. they certainly became a rock band , but they certainly started off in the mod scene, there Managnent pushed them down that route as that’s where the money was

@scootercoop52342 жыл бұрын
Your right Paul … no parts stalls at Brighton… the Brighton council may have something to do with that though , as they are being more Arsey to Scooterists every year .. I think they are being very short sighted… they don’t seem to be able to see the amount of revenue that weekender brings into the town !

Noting the comments on here - not that I would join them, I doubt, but what do you actually have to do to become a Mod? If I wear my bolero and linen trousers in the summer (I always dress smartly, and have my own sense of what looks good, I don’t follow “fashion”, never have, as it looks ridiculous on me), is that Mod? or is it much more elitist than that, and you have to actually literally sign up to something, some club, and get a scooter and all the paraphernalia to go with it, etc. etc.? I could never get a scooter, I can barely ride a bicycle, and I am middle aged. Is it too late for followers of them, by that stage? I like their fashions, they way the dress and I like their scooters, but what else is there? I am not the best in groups of people, I am individualistic. I can’t wear a mini skirt, I’d look ridiculous, I am nearly 55!!
@scootercoop52347 ай бұрын
Mod is all about being different , not “mainstream “ the fashion is the biggest statement in mod , not all mods have scooters , the scooter was the add on accessories (obviously helped to get young teenagers about in the 60s ) you don’t have to be in a club you just have to feel good about you and the way you look , obviously liking mod music is also a good start ! .. thanks for your feedback 👍
@philipmorris36842 жыл бұрын
As an original mod from the late 60s and 70s I had the clothing and the scooter, in it's time being a fantastic scene , in my opinion that's where it should stay, all this mod weekender is not true to the time it's just mostly old wannabees who think that wearing oversized replica mod clothing makes them a mod it doesn't it just makes you look ridiculous, mod clothing is meant to be tailored and slim fitting, it doesn't work on an 18 stone person with a beer belly and grey hair, please leave it where it belongs in the past where it was enjoyed by the young.
@scootercoop52342 жыл бұрын
Everyone is entitled to there opinion Philip , and I respect yours … but when you see the joy , pleasure , excitement to the people who go to these events - why would anyone want to stop them ? Especially in such trying times when all around is doom ,gloom , people should grab anything that makes them happy … we’re only here once

I totally agree with you on the current Brighton rally, but the scene went very much underground for many years when we were much younger and it was superb, seriously. I particularly loved attending events in Italy, I’m sure you would have too if you were there. It was very elitist of course, but that’s what made it so special I guess.

I get that the scene now cannot and will never compare to the originals .. they just can’t , a different time and place ... but if people want to tag onto the scene , and put there own spin on it , surely that’s what mod is about being different? Yes - most of the people in the scene now are late 70s mods with a bit of money in there pocket now that they are older , able to buy the things they could only dream of before .. “once a mod always a mod” they may have got married come out of the scene and have lately gone back in .. but they are enjoying it ! Surely that’s not a crime ? You can’t compare today’s mods with originals , “the originals are still the greatest “. . But that can’t be a reason for people /anybody enjoying life ? .. we only get one chance at it .... live and let live and Be Happy 😊👍

@@scootercoop5234 I never mentioned the original mods, I mentioned the true mod scene, anybody who has ever been a part of that will understand exactly what I mean. My involvement in all things mod, scooter and soul etc goes back 40 years solid, I’ve seen every aspect of it over the years. The Brighton weekend just attracts hoards of weekend only comedy mods who at 50+ still put on their 79 revival based fancy dress outfits and it’s seriously not a good look for the middle aged :) I just think it’s so easy these days for those returning to the scene to go online and get clued up quickly, rather than buying dodgy comedy gear, so I just don’t get it? Anyway those who know, know :)

@@nsoul8469 I totally understand there are two types of Mod , I really do get it … and most of the mainstream mods have returned to the scene from having a “dabble “ with it in the 80s .. I have friends in both “ corners “.. I remember very well being a mod in the 80s and everyone hated us ! Skins , punks , rockers , rude boys , you couldn’t possibly go into the city without having a fight .. I lived through that for 5 years .. nowadays I am not a mod - but I understand the scene , I see the two types of mod .. and I feel it’s a shame to see the “intolerance “ to each other - because 40 years of of all the hatred we grew up with - everyone now gets on !! You go to a scooter rally you see mods , skins , rude boys happily enjoying themselves .. even the rockers are friendlier nowadays … so to see the mods split down the middle is (for me ) a terrible thing - as in the 80s it was only our strength of “sticking together” that got us through … I can clearly see and understand the difference in the “2 types of mod” … but to me … love to you all ✊ mods are mods … I would go out of my way to look out for any of you , if all the “mainstream mods “ changed there ways and became “elitist mods” then everyone would be the same - so I can’t see how that would work either … mod is about being different, I feel there’s enough room on the scene for both , your all under the mod banner…. Just like there’s two types of skinheads 👍

And the ahem men 🙄.. I'm pretty sure there grand children are cringing at what they all see ... @@rha4374 I think the lad meant it’s a “England thing” due to the fact that the music scene was pushed in London in its early days .. obviously it caught on around the country like wild fire … but London boasted Carnaby street , and most of the early mod bands came from the capital .. I only presume he meant England thing as we appear to celebrate the mod scene on a regular basis .. I know there’s a big mod scene in Thailand and they hold many big events , I know Europe has major scooter events but mostly attended by “Scooterists “ not so much mods.. I know the scooter scene still draws big crowds up in Scotland 🏴.. I’m not sure what there mod scene is like ?
