For those saying the 2001 sucks, you’d actually be wrong. The 2001-130 is so much more reliable. It has almost twice the coverage, it has an effective battery backup, and a new radio.

I grew up not far from here, and there was another EOWS 612 off of Buno road, behind the old Lyons schoolhouse, which was practically my backyard. I have vivid memories of it going off in the summer starting in ‘88. Scared the crap outta me. To my recollection it always took a second to wind up and down, giving it a warped feel. Ran into our basement when to the tune of that thing several times over the years. Even driving by it in the winter I could feel its cones looking at me... my parents sold the house recently and when I went back to visit one last time they had replaced the siren completely with a simple-looking one like to the tall one here. RIP, Six Cones.

in my opinion i think your video is better lol, i would have gotten a much better view and audio if we parked further up the street on the side of the road and both sirens were also facing up the street but we didnt know if it was aloud, so we went in the back and parked under the sirens. but thanks man

the 612 was installed about 20 years ago and has been running ever since then, it just needs a new sounds card and speakers and it should be fine.

Stormsetter4 Shut up. The 2001 sirens are terrible. Cheaply made, pitch varies, they're just a load of absolute garbage. The ASC T-128 is better.

I object to pretty much everything you guys said with actual factual evidence. The EOWS was a very rushed product, there were lots of problems, the controller was a absolute piece of junk that had multitudes of problems and was not very reliable. This siren was past its service life and obviously had issues. As for you saying the 2001's are cheap pieces of crap, you sir are very wrong. They are very well built and for the number of them out there, VERY few of them fail or have issues. They are a tried and true siren that is very reliable and gets the job done.

At least I know there is a place in Michigan that the older Federal Signal civil defense sirens, like the EOWS or the Thunderbolt, are retired to until they are either scrapped for parts, or purchased and restored by siren enthusiasts.

the siren on the left is an old siren, so the one on the right is replacing it incase if it ever stops working, theres a high chance that the one on the left doesnt work anymore since its been 5 months, but i might come back and record these sirens again

These comments are hilarious to look at. People are saying that the EOWS is more reliable than the 2001-130. Yes, the 612 may be better sound-wise but those things are a hog to maintain I hear and their speakers are not the best. The 2001-130 as said below is better because it's louder as shown (You can't doubt it, I am sorry.). It's less money to maintain for sure.... And it *probably* has battery backup (Meaning it can run after power has gone out for a short time). So yeah. The EOWS*612 isn't bad don't get me wrong, but when you put every siren it compares to in a line it just doesn't do it. I say the town made a great choice for buying the Federal Signal 2001-130.

wrong, the 612 only produces 124 decibels at 100 feet while the 2001-130 produces 130 decibels at 100 feet
