Yes, I too have stood by watching my connecting flight plane leave. So frustrating bc the delay was caused by knuckleheads at the previous airport that kept giving us conflicting messages about the supposed delay. A bunch of us missed our flights, including this poor old man trying to get to Australia.🙄 On the other hand, your cackling laugh made me laugh. My worst airplane experience is when my brother's passport was expired and we found out the day of the flight. But we had a Weddington catch because I was a bridesmaid and he was a peg boy. We missed the pre-party but made it in time for the wedding.

No I doubt he was allowed to fly with an expired passport. You can ring your embassy or the place that gives you a passport and explain the emergency and you can get an emergency passport for the flight there and back but it cost a lot

Just a quibble: "Flight Level" is not merely a fancy way of saying "altitude above mean sea level." It's the indicated altitude at standard atmospheric pressure (29.92 inHg or 1013.2 hPa) and not at the actual atmospheric pressure. All aircraft climbing above the transition altitude (18,000 ft in the US; some places transition much lower) set their altimeters to standard pressure. When descending out of the flight levels, they set their altimeters to the current reading. When you're at FL350, your altimeter is reading 35,000 feet, but your actual altitude is probably different.

Pilots don’t use the autopilot after reaching the cruise altitude :)) nor after flying for 10 hours!! Usually, the autopilot is engaged shortly after take off, depending on the workload of the pilots, and is disengaged shortly before landing, or if the procedure requires an auto-land, the autopilot is disengaged after landing.

Most of the pilots that I have worked with have flown cargo at some point. When they started working with me on medical aircraft (I’m a mechanic), we refer to the medical people as “self loading cargo “. This tends to make them mad. As they want to be called crew, not cargo or passengers. Even though they have no aviation duties or certificates from the FAA

Pilots are not required to take a rest after 10 hours, at least in the US. There are flight duty limitations set in place by the FAA, and how long a pilot is able to be on duty is depends on his report time, and how many legs they are doing that day.
