10 Psychological Effects That Affect Your Behavior

How to make people like you? How to understand people and your own behavior? Sometimes we do something weird and then think, ‘What was the logic of my behavior?’ In fact, there’s always some logic, but most often it hides in certain peculiarities of your mind. We’re going to tell you about ten psychological effects that affect you almost every day.
TIMESTAMPS
The Anchoring Effect 0:41
Deflection to the Result 1:10
The Paradox of Choice 1:39
Clustering Illusion 2:07
Pratfall Effect 2:29
The Kuleshov Effect 2:53
"Body Negative" 3:42
Survivorship Bias 4:02
Hard-to-Reach Effect 4:28
The Fear of Beauty 4:51
SUMMARY
- People feel it much easier to evaluate something if they have the original price (even if it’s wrong) as a kind of anchor.
- We often judge the correctness of a decision by the final result, not by the actions taken to achieve it. This effect is often used by those ads which concentrate you only on the final result (for example, on buying).
- The paradox of choice says that the more options there are, the less the possibility we’ll be happy with our final choice.
- Clustering Illusioт is characterized by the tendency to see a certain system in random coincidences. This especially applies to gamblers and lovers of fate signs.
- Perfection is repulsive, and mistakes are attractive - they make us more human. That’s why you shouldn’t get too upset having stumbled in front of anyone.
- The effect when a viewer, after seeing two unrelated frames, unconsciously makes up a logical connection between them is called the Kuleshov effect.
- "Body negative" is a condition where a person thinks they’re ugly, and this is why their personal life is a fail. And their whole life is a fail.
- Most often we judge a situation only by successful people ("survivors"), and that’s why we know just one side of it. For example, we envy a businessperson who got rich selling Bengal lights, but we don’t know how many businesspeople failed with them.
- Even if we look at it from a human level: closed, high-status, "no-one-knows-what’s-on-their-mind" people always seem more attractive than others.
- Some people feel excessive tension next to beautiful people: excitement, double control of one’s actions, the desire to save face, and fear of comparison. Such stress doesn’t arise next to an average person.
Do you know any interesting psychological tricks that help in communicating with anyone? Share them in the comments!

If you walk up to a group of people who are talking and they turn their feet towards you, that means they are welcoming you into the conversation. If they keep their body rigid and without turning their feet, they prefer you out of the conversation. If a girl is messing with her ear/hair and her wrist is exposed that means she likes you. If she messes with her ear/hair and her wrist is turned away, she doesn't like you. When meeting someone, say their name multiple times. It makes them like you more as a better first impression. That and lots of eye contact. When shaking hands, people often find that warm hands are more attractive than cold. I'm not sure if any of these are proven by scientific reason, but I find them interesting.

Marijke Cuffe That's why it's just so much easier to tell someone they're beautiful over the internet than in person. I bet you if he saw you in person, he wouldn't tell you your beautiful. Heck, he probably wouldn't even talk or look at you. He would be afraid you'll see him like some kind of a creep and he wouldn't want to be embarrassed by that. But many people have become that way because of much it has socially changed. Strangers have lost trust in one another so meeting someone, especially if they're beautiful, is very difficult now.
@Black.Spades
@Black.Spades 7 жыл бұрын
Black Shark I understand why people are afraid they would be perceived as creeps. Then again, usually (sincere and friendly) compliments are warmly received. But unfortunately it's mostly the creeps that try to "compliment", but actually hit on someone in public, which makes giving compliments to strangers seem creepy. Which in turn holds back nice people from complimenting, etc. Some kind of vicious circle.

Highly intelligent people look for patterns even when there's none present. They do this with everything. So when there is one they're quick to see it. And sometimes they can make an educated guess as to how certain events will turn out even if they are random.

There is also body dysmorphic syndrome. This creates a situation where the individual sees themselves as more flawed than they actually are. Often beautiful people are seen as more honest and people are more likely to agree with an individual they see as beautiful, rather than someone unattractive. There is a whole dichotomy that occurs. Interesting video! I enjoyed it.

I think rule 1 depends on a persons self confidence. If you're insecure you won't feel confident enough to sit by someone you see as attractive, but if you're secure in yourself you will. But I do agree with it. If you view yourself as less then you won't want to approach or even think of being near the person but if you see yourself as equal or at least better than, then you will.

someone who is negative about their body might not have a self-esteem problem. one psychiatrist tried to diagnose me with body dysmorphia but when medical issues forced me to have all my teeth removed. It was discovered that my face really is too big for my jaw. because of this I do not look the way I should. therefore when I feel like I'm looking at strangers face in the mirror it's completely no because my brain knows what my face should look like and it doesn't look that way. due to multiple medical conditions and being overweight. I'm thinking of starting a go fund me to have facial reconstruction surgery. thoughts?

angel whispers noooo embrace how you naturally look, beauty is relative. Think of it like animals, each animal is beautiful in their own way. They're living majestic creatures. What most people consider attractive is a social construct. We are all beautiful and different. Don't let the world pressure you to change your face.

You can literally talk to anyone without much social pressure with confidence, what gives you confidence is looks, body language, and think of the negatives of not talking to the person rather than thinking about the positive of not doing so

I have always had a hard time socializing. I learned that if I soften my eyes to an almost doe like quality (the look of compassion), slightly lift my eyebrows, & soften my smile & shoulders ever so slightly, people will talk to me. I can get a complete stranger to tell me the most personal information. I guess the key is to appear interested & gentle while also appearing confident, open, & happy. People really do want to socialize & share their thoughts & experiences but we frequently have a protective wall that pushes others back. That's my strategy to be a bit more social.

Seems like it would be lonely to be really attractive, people constantly avoiding you because they are afraid to embarrass themselves. Think that is something we should keep in mind, that attractive people might suffer from body negativity or loneliness. I wanna //try// to keep this in mind the next time i see a cutie!

THE TITANIUM yes I ghost kn so much of our behaviors are motivated by subconscious desires and thoughts but we don't know it until we actually interact with another person and see them react to us. Sometimes we don't even understand why they react the way they do it's all really fascinating

I've noticed looking directly into someone eyes makes them trust you more and look back into yours.like whenever I need money for lunch at school. Also hugging ,the first time u hug some determines if their hug u again.Putting your checks against theirs just feels nice and warm.😅

I think I'm average, but I'm always told I am really attractive. I always thought people didn't sit next to me because I looked weird. I'm always the last person to get sat next to anywhere I go. Then my dad told me about No. 1 on this list. I thought he was just trying to make me feel good. I guess I have that self-esteem problem too haha :P

About the survivor bias, it is often pointed out with the saying, 'History gets written by the victors (winners).' After all, the people who for example, win a war over a kingdom, will influence how the citizen's see their nationality and history.

ViVi everyone is NOT beautiful. but everyone CAN be attractive. there are factors like symmetry etc. that we humans find beautiful. beauty is not always subjective. some people were born with better genes. that's the truth.
