A very misleading title to this video which also shows multiple different aircraft and flight deck views. The plane crash landed with two wings and only lost parts due to hitting trees. The aircraft was a McDonnell Douglas MD 81 with tail mounted engines. The engine problem was caused due to ice breaking off the wings and being ingested into the tail mounted engines, a known problem. The fuselage broke into three pieces but miraculously no fire and nobody was killed. Passengers just walked out of the open ends of the broken fuselage. Check out Scandinavian Flight 751 crash for a more accurate story of this accident which happened in December 1991.

It did not land with “one wing” what actually happened was that its engines failed straight after it started climbing away from the airport. When it tried to land, they collided with the treetops, which made their wing fall off. At 3:45 they de-ice the plane, at 4:01 no-one thinks to double-check the wing tops? How long elapsed between these situations? You mean it _re-iced_ while they waited? So, is _any_ plane ever safe to take off in icy conditions? De-icing seems pointless, and worse, it engenders a false sense of security. The video of this episode is terrible at representing facts. Most of the time they were showing totally random stock footage of airplanes. If you’re going to try to document an air disaster, try to get the facts straight, like consistent showing the right kind if aircraft and don’t misrepresent facts - like “airplane lands with only one wing…” it crash landed and lost a wing in the resulting crash.

Oh boy I clicked this too fast. Bad idea to watch an air crash video by a channel other than an aviation channel. Showing 4 different planes in the first 7 minutes or so, indicating the engines by 'the right and the left one' while showing a 4-engine plane, talking about the captain while showing a person in the first officer's seat, and showing a person in a costume while referring to the captain, and no flightsim. I just could not go on any further after this. I came back to see if the flight in question was actually identified, and it was after about 5 minutes. For those who would like to see this covered by an aviation channel: It's flight 751 scandinavial airlines, and is covered by Mini Aircrash Investigation, Airspace, Alec Joshua Ilbay, Mentour and The Flight Channel. YW!

When you do a video about a McDonald Douglas MD-80 series aircraft don’t use such extensive video of a Boeing. They are configured completely differently as to engine location. A crash that rips a wing off is NOT landing without a wing. By the time of this crash the clear ice formation on the upper wing due to super cooled fuel of this series aircraft was NOT well understood and procedures to prevent it were put in place after this accident. The procedures required after this accident have prevented any more accidents from this cause.
@Fluffy-Fluffy2 жыл бұрын
What a weird ending. I know about this accident and there was something else, a feature installed on the aircraft that wasn't mentioned and the plane did things the captain couldn't understand or control. It was this last factor, his inability to feel he had control over and knew the aircraft that caused him to stop flying. He did try but the trauma had become too much for him. I feel like I heard a completely different version of events that caused this plane to crash than the one I have known so far but I admit I wasn't listening carefully. I'll try again.
