Eric Rosen showed this a few years ago and I've played it ever since with pretty good success. There is a a big downside tho if they don't blunder their queen then you are just down a pawn with little to none compensation. However I'll still keep playing it because I'd rather be down a pawn than play some regular d4 bc4 stuff against the scandi

The Dunst Gambit (1. e4 d5 2. d3 dxe4 3. Nc3 exd3 4. Bxd3) is very spicy against the scandi and the compensation for the pawn is a lot more real than this trap. I can’t tell you how many easy games I’ve won by picking up queens with discovered check after castling queen side. Ridiculously over powered

This is what I always play, learned it from Eric Rosen's videos. I've only very very rarely actually gotten to the position where I can take on f7. Much of the time, people actually premove or just move too quickly, and so they play Qa5, then you play b4, and they end up hanging their queen because they weren't expecting their queen to get attacked.

I'm myself a scandinavian player and bishop c4 takes pf7 is a pretty well known trap. Just develop king knight to f6 or if you want to be way save passive push e pawn. Of course there are still tactics around from the distance but if white keeps overpushing his "lead" will find himself in a worst position.

@ClarkPotter

Yes. Black has a very terrible game with their king stuck in the center, isolated e-pawn, and no development or any compensation for these factors. His entire game is reduced to attempting to painfully evade humiliation by being lost by move 6. Even if he does survive, he will be saddled with a janky position all game if white plays reasonably. White gets fluid, normal development, semi-open b- and e-files, can still castle, and delicious attacking prospects on black's king who can only slink away around the ruins of their position to try to survive. An intermediate player or better will feel embarrassed if they can't swiftly put black away here as white.

Good explanation and I understand the significance of traps, especially in early chess development, but in this case you should really warn potential White players for 5....Qe4+ or the simple 6....Nf6 or Nc6. The latter is the best move and simply doesn't give White too much for the gambit. Apparently there's some shenanigans with 7.a4 a6 but that's about it. It looks flashy but it's strategic base is limited.

Im guilty in charge! I remember playing a blitz tournament OTB and someone played this trap against me, I had never seen before so I went for logical normal moves, I didnt like to play Na6 so I thought, ok I play Qa5 and it's gonna be a normal Scandi a pawn up, and after Bc4 I followed with a quick c6 because how on earth I could see any danger in the position with only a bishop out there, well... you know what came next, I had to resign in a few moves. Very cheesy trap.
@kevinmorford5032

At about 4:30 of the video, you start covering the variations when the trip the trap by taking the white bishop with the king. You point out that even the better move (moving the king to d8) is bad for black. But you do not really give recommended following moves for white after d8. What do you recommend?
@seifeddinehentous5563
@seifeddinehentous5563 2 жыл бұрын
Just retreat the knight to C3 and play normal chess from there, there isn't an obvious way to follow it up or something, but it's a winning position so you shouldn't have any problem so develop normally, castle and you should be Fine.
@vigneshanand7009
@vigneshanand7009 2 жыл бұрын
@@seifeddinehentous5563 it's not winning at all, it's probably like +1 with accurate play (if you play Nc3), the point is just you get a comfortable/better position with white so you shouldn't be afraid of Kd8. Nd4 is probably better than Nc3 tho because it forces slow development from black and more control over the center for white.
@seifeddinehentous5563
@seifeddinehentous5563 2 жыл бұрын
@@vigneshanand7009 Nd4 is probably a mistake and definitely not forcing your opponent to develop slowly, he could play e5 or c5 and develop with tempo or just develop his Bishop or knights, or even better He could play queen e5 check attacking your knight forcing you to play knight e2 or u'd lose it, he's gonna develop quickly while your knight is blocking your queen.
@vigneshanand7009
@vigneshanand7009 2 жыл бұрын
@@seifeddinehentous5563 e5 or c5, I just play Nb3 with a clear advantage for white, but yes Qe5+ would win on the spot for black. Ok, so given Nc3 is then the best move for white, this is still not winning at all by any means. My main point is just that the guy in the video is trying to promote the idea of winning the queen. This might mislea d people of lower elo into playing this opening thinking they can win a queen if their opponent messes up, but if they don't then they have no clue how to create sufficient compensation for being a pawn down. You have to be confident that you can play this position with sufficient compensation in all variations, otherwise it'd be ludicrous to play this opening merely hoping for your opponent to blunder their queen.
@seifeddinehentous5563
@seifeddinehentous5563 2 жыл бұрын
@@vigneshanand7009 I understand what your saying but it's still clearly winning, you're not a pawn down, both of you lost 2 pawns, his e pawn is extremly weak as it can't be defended with any pawn, his king is weak AND can't castle , and on top of that you have a nice bishop, the b file can easily be used by bringing your rooks there and dangerously lining up on the opponent's queen side.
@4d_chesser

at 5:06: after you got the queen, should you move Qc3 to threaten to take the rook or is there a better line for white?
@iPyroNigma
@iPyroNigma 2 жыл бұрын
It's black's turn to move, so you might not get the cnace to threaten to take the rook. Also, if you go Qc3 then black plays Bg7, helping him gain tempo by counterattacking your queen (and that bishop move was the best move for black according to stockfish). Either finish your development, or you can rook lift with Rb1 - Rb3 and then finish your development (knight out then castle).

Hey Nelson. Chess beginner here. I follow most you tubers and all their content is great. I think your short videos on certain lines like this are great but what I think would be awesome if you were to do short graphics of the lines at the end of the video (time stamped) where each moves of the line plays out maybe with 1-3 second intervals between each move. That way we can get a good understanding in the beginning but then get a pure visualisation of the lines at the end 👌 If you were to do that structure on all traps and certain lines/openings I am sure your subscription rate would explode.

I play a much more simplified version of this trap where after Qa5 I go straight for Nb5. Down in the 1200s, that is almost always met with either c6 or d5/d6. With c6, Qh5 typically wins the queen as they will likely cap the Knight, which you can recapture with the bishop with check. From there the Queen is lost. I’ve also seen players attack my Queen, which is meaningless as Nd6+ gives a tempo and wins the queen Really as long as they don’t find a6 or defend the h5 square, Qh5 will win either the Queen or the rook, at least at the 1200 level
