Hummel was an amazing composer. His music is of an elegance and beauty that deeply enchants us. Although he was an extraordinary musician in the various genres he composed, he is fabulous to me in concerts he wrote. The grace, lyricism, subtlety and unbelievable musical harmony, makes him a true genius in this genre of music, that are true masterpieces. Viva Hummel and his divine music. The pianist and violinist are fantastic not only for the sensitivity they conveys to us but for the excellent virtuosity they employ. The orchestra and conducting are superb. Thanks for the moments of unforgettable pleasure that this magnificent recording gives us.

As I have read in the comments, no doubt that Hummel, Pleyel and other classical after Mozart and Haydn fell in oblivion. Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn created a strong shadow over their music. Thanks to those musicians who have given a new breathing for them since these compositions are really precious.

Hummel was one of many Czech and Slovakian composers who often lived abroad. Mozart was surprised by the talent of 8 yo Hummel and for two years provided him not only with tuition but also with accommodation.

I can remember playing on an upright piano that sounded like the one in this recording. It had sat rusting at the back of a shed for maybe fifty years and was home to a family of mice. Not all the keys worked, but even that one had a warmer tone than the one in this recording.

This is a _fortepiano,_ which has a different construction than modern piano, yielding a different, "cooler" sound. The ones featured on this album are quality instruments, but may take some getting used to for those accustomed only to modern ones. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortepiano

@@Galantski Well said. It's hard to get used to a new kind of sound. When I was a teenager I would only ever listen to popular music. With time, there are now many traditions and styles of music I enjoy. I don't mind some historical instruments, the lute and instruments from the violin family, for example, but I just find it hard to enjoy the harpsichord and fortepiano. Maybe I just need to listen to more of it. Anyhow, best wishes.

I have to say the painting is a pure ugly masterpiece, with the right, or left rear leg of the horse ( i am not sure which one it is) and the ugly combination between brown and black for the “unknown” lady riding the horse, especially that the black is so standing out almost there is no proportion in the painting. The building in the background is nice though 🙂
