After a New York hefty and crazy day, Grieg's music is just what the soul needs. Your contribution is much appreciated. Cheers

Always felt this piece was undervalued. I guess if you look at the individual movements they can seem a little underdeveloped, but the entire piece taken from beginning to end is very satisfying, and has some interesting ideas and piano writing. And it's also the rare post-classical piano sonata that doesn't risk sounding overblown and showy (not that there's anything wrong with that, but variety is good).

This is embodying the musical aesthetics and soul of Greig

Thank you. I listened more for the Lyric Pieces than for the Sonata, and was not disappointed. Interesting and emotional presentations, especially the Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, which is one of my favorites. The Nocturne made a lovely ending to the album. And I was introduced to this Sonata, which my fellow commenters say is undeservedly overlooked. At this first hearing, I'm inclined to agree, as I enjoyed it.

Superb rendition of this often under-rated sonata -- looking forward to hearing the selections from the Lyric Pieces and other work from this very fine pianist! Beautiful recorded sound too!

Really nice playing here. Grieg's one of my favourite composers and his lyric pieces are gorgeous. Idmtal's playing really takes its time to bring out the emotions really well.

Did anyone else notice at 03:50 a foreshadowing of In the Hall of the Mountain King? All kidding aside, this outstanding CD is a welcome addition to Grieg’s solo piano repertoire.

Of all piano music written after Brahms who could deny Greig was among the finest especially considering his monstrous piano concerto. His sonata is indeed extremely underrated.

The first piano concerto I ever studied was Grieg’s but I haven’t listened to his sonata. I wonder if it got overshadowed by his very famous pieces like Peer Gynt and the piano concerto.

Great! Very colorful. Beautiful sound. May be too much rubato. This way it sounds kind of pretentious.
