It is like having a private tutor. Excellent instructor! She's tied up so many loose ends for me--she has wrapped everything up in a neat, tidy bow giving me the gift of Spanish.

Thank you for asking about this. It should be "estaban cansados" for "were tired". I probably meant to write "Fueron casados" or "The young people were married." I'll fix it! :)

“Ser” and “ir” are conjugated the same in the preterite tense because Vulgar Latin was not spoken so well, so it was decided that Spanish would ignore the preterite tense of the Latin verb “ire” and make the whole preterite tense of “ser” also apply to “ir” probably because “ser” might be thought of as a vital verb. (Portuguese did the same thing.) Besides, the verb “ir” doesn’t have an actual stem.

Fueron cansados? Shouldn't it be "estuvieron cansados?"
