Interesting how there wasn't actually a debate about Veganism and Islam. I'm a fan of Hamza and would challenge him to actually debate veganism in relation to Islamic teachings. As a practicing Muslim and Vegan, I am surprised there are not more Muslim vegetarians and vegans in the world despite the disgusting unethical methods meat and dairy are produced in the world today. Cruelty to animals occurs during production, handling, transport, and slaughter in the majority of countries. We are taught to look after animals, treat them with kindness and respect. Islam forbids slaughtering an animal in front of another animal. Unless you buy your meat from an Islamic farm that slaughters animals separately and alone, you are eating an animal that has been slaughtered in front of another. I find this incredibly hypocritical and Muslims need to wake up. Not to mention the egg industry where animals are crammed in cages, not able to move, injected with hormones to make them produce thousands of eggs - until their death. “It is a great sin for man to imprison those animals which are in his power.” (Hadith: Muslim) The dairy industry - cows are artificially inseminated over and over again to reproduce milk, her baby taken away and either killed for veal or bred to have the same destiny as her mother. The mother cries for days and days over her baby and is in great distress. Is this how our beloved Prophet Muhammed pbuh taught us how to treat animals? Muslims all over the world need to wake up. Leaders and influencial people need to start educating themselves and the Muslim nation on the mistreatment of animals that happens primarily in Muslim countries.
