Most or almost all the people mentioned here, which includes dear old Eric, have passed away. They're from an era of British entertainment which I greatly respect and you'll never see their kind again, let me tell you. God bless to them all and thanks for the memories ❤ 😊

01:17:17 - A very rare live performance by Benny Hill. He had severe stage fright when performing onstage. But in a TV studio, where everything was controlled, and could be corrected in post-production, he was comfortable.

I have lived in Canada for over 45 years, but growing up in the UK all of my TV memories were shows of true entertainment value and heritage. Times change and evolve, but there is comfort in memories and nostalgic shows with notorious entertainers who's fame made them legend. Recently I found myself back in the UK for an unexpected period of time, whilst I heard many complaints about TV content I have to say how awesome it was to have such a vast array of quality programs. I am now back home in Canada, and still seek and search out the unique and familiar brand of incomparable quality shows and drama for which there is no equal to the quality the UK produces. It's awesome to see shows like this honoring performers who made it the Goliath it is continues to be decade after decade/century.

It's amazing how many UK entertainers took part - it's like a Who's Who is British comedians of that time. It's also like a 1980s answer to the All-Star Comedy Carnival. Pity that Bob Monkhouse didn't take part as he was one of the very few entertainers I can think of who didn't appear that night. The year 1984 was such an Annus Horribulus for British entertainment; so many passing away that year. I believe that Dickie Henderson was the first to pass away, nine months later.

The last hurrah of the golden age of Christmas TV. Less than two months later EastEnders premiered and the Christmas of 1985 was the first time we got the now familiar Christmas Day pattern of one hour each of Corrie and EastEnders, which now also includes one hour each of Emmerdale and Strictly.

Bygraves was an old hypocrite. He used to slag off Eric and Ernie onstage, calling them "The one with the glasses and the other one". This was because, in a Sky At Night sketch, Eric says to Patrick Moore "Do you think that in our lifetime, we will actually see a man land on Julie Andrews?" Then he said "Is there such a thing as life on Max Bygraves?" All good fun and so typical of them, but of course, old Big 'Ead Bygraves had no sense of humour about himself.

Jim Davidson, calls Paul Daniels outdated then launches into his racist routine, blissfully unaware that alternative comedy had already replaced his act.
@callithowiseeit58064 жыл бұрын
Yep alternative comedy had replaced him and every other working class comedian, from then on we'd be swamped with Oxbridge luvvies affecting regional accents and selling the 'pleb' experience back to us "ello john gotta new mowtah" etc. but then you'd know that if you weren't so blissfully unaware, as for RACIST Jim Davidson he had a character called 'Chalky' that - unlike every other comedian acknowledged the presence of minorities which if you think about it (without your oh so virtuous kneejerk offence) was quite progressive, incidentally west indians (like myself) loved it as Chalky was never the butt of the joke and we knew it was affectionately done, but then you'd know that if you actually knew any black people and weren't trying to overcompensate with your inner guilt-driven concern

I’m wondering what you expected from this , a tribute to Eric Morcombe ? ...showing the kind of acts he started out with and filmed in 1980 . It’s different to today’s stuff , and not all great , but there’s a lot of shite around today as well as decent stuff .
