I really like Sempiternal. Sure, their style is different but every band changes over time; they want to experiment. Having the same sound gets boring. That being said, I agree with Oli's statement about heavy music. And personally, if their new sound has to do with Oliver's voice, I support it wholeheartedly. I'd much rather see him work on something than doesn't strain his voice so much than not seeing him make music at all because he lost his voice trying to please all you fucks that complain about the new style vs the old. Just looking at recent live performances shows how difficult it is for him to keep screaming. Just appreciate what the band has to offer and stop all the pansy ass whining. I digress.

5:08 YES OLIVER YES!!! That's exactly right, heavy music doesn't have to be deathmetal or whatever, it's what makes you feel your own feelings so strongly that it influences how you want to be. Sempiternal was definitely the album that did that to me, and heavy music is about the heavy lyrics, not the heavy sound! That's really the biggest thing that makes everybody clash, the people who like the newer stuff like the lyrics and stuff and the old fans like the feeling of the sounds that they put into the music (like the screaming, they wanted to scream their emotions and so they like that stuff) idk but either way BMTH is evolving nicely and they're still amazing and I'm happy that they're doing what they want to do, not what everyone else wants them to do

I picked up the album a week ago, and after listening to it for a while I've noticed that they've evolved so much. In this interview, Oli says that they were hiding behind speed, heaviness and the screaming in Count your Blessings because they weren't that good a songwriters or musicians. But now they've progressed and evolved and became the band they want to be. Sempiternal is still a heavy, it still hits you hard but it's refined and not just a heavy double bass kick and high streaking shred.

It’s strange how shy these lads are in interviews, and then in their music and live performances they’re the complete opposite.

Only that's not necessarily the way he meant it. The music one hears 24/7 always lingering around one acts like a shield you can hide behind, that shuts people out who won't care to understand you or whatever the musicians you love are playing and why you love it.

I've listened to Bring Me the Horizon since This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made for. I've listened to these guys grow as musicians through the years and it is amazing what they've done. Their music has helped me through every bad situation in my life and has shown me many things. And Sempiternal is one of the most beautiful, melodic, and impressive album I have ever listened to.
