Not to bum everybody out, but for the sake of explanation, The Boxing Day tsunami was one of the worst natural disasters in terms of both destruction and casualties in recorded human history, created by a magnitude 9 earthquake. It claimed 230,000 lives in total across the oceanic area and destroyed 22 billion USD worth of infrastructure. Reports say some of the waves were as high as 100 feet.

I remember in my geography class in year 9 we talked about the tsunami and watched a movie that follows a spanish family who were affected. Also where it hit was in an area that was thought to not have tsunamis so there were no sensors built out to sea or near Indonesia that could have alerted people about the earthquake and the tsunami. I do believe they did end up putting sensors near as a result of that tsunami
