A poor dog was pushed on me and I wasn't prepared at all for this , within an hour the dog was presented to me after the call. After one day I had to give her back while being told the next move would be the pound to put her down. Talk about gilt trip. I cried like a baby this morning over this.,I'm 60. Long time back I told a friend I was thinking of getting myself a dog he told this guy who was trying to unload one and my name appeared. The guy is not a bad guy but the way it was done was to fast for everyone he played on my imotions . This should have been planned out and the poor dog could be saved. Nothing is in the right place for to save her, sad situation. 😟☘️

I've adopted a traumatized street dog around 7 years, even after one year she doesn't allow me to put a leash and walk her and goes totally wild when I try. Took months to win her trust and be able to even pet her... it's hard.. :(

I am adopting a English setter this summer and I am nervous because he is almost deaf. We had a German shepherd before she was very well trained, I taught her a few tricks and commands some of them non verbal, so I am stressing that much over his training, although I know english setters can be stubborn. What about its walks? I was thinking about getting that thing that leashes all over the dogs body, like that "collar" the rescue dogs often have (obviously I have no idea how that's called in english 😅😅) just to make sure we both feel secured

i dont like putting dogs in crates i want them too feel safe and free to explore and find there own place to sleep where they feel comfortable

Angel Poopie the crate is their safe space. After mine was trained I left the crate open and she would go there and sleep with the door open. Hide in it when it storms. It will turn into a place where they feel safe.
@rodneysrecreations469

With proper crate training, your dog will think the crate is the most safest space. Having a crate can make having a dog way easier. It makes them more obedient and less stressed. Dogs should also earn freedom, not have it 24/7 because that will lead to disobedience and unloyalty. They can sleep, eat, play, and feel safe in the crate. You want them to have a specific spot to go to when sleeping, or when you have family over and the dog doesn't want kids touching him. learn how to teach your dog crate training.

I don't clip my dogs nails, because we are always out and about, walking a lot naturally keeps them filed. But also, long nails can be silently painful for them. The blood supply can grow too big and the dogs nails will continue to grow. It's not opinions, it's fact. The fact is that dogs are set up for success and preform better when crate trained. It's an opinion whether you want to or not, or if you disagree, but it's hard to disagree with general facts.

what medications should i get for my dog to prevent heart worms, fleas, tics, etc? He is just over a year old and I don’t have his history on this kind of stuff. I’m not sure what all is necessary, but i want to keep him healthy as well as happy

I would suggest asking your vet, but keep in mind there are numerous natural products that can be used instead of all the harsh, toxic flea treatments.

Though I probably won't get a dog, I like being prepared so if it's alright I have a question. When we're away or such where should we put the crate? In a quiet room like a bathroom? A bedroom? I'm quite confused, and also where should we put the dog's bed? Should we one bed in a specific room? Like a bedroom or living room? Sorry if I sound nosy or something I'm just very curious cause I've never had a new pet. Anywho, thanks for the great video! :)

Ideally your dogs crate should be in a low traffic area (and not your bedroom). You shouldn't move the crate around as it might confuse the dog. You can and should crate your dog if you are not home, but you need to remember this cannot be done for long period of times. If it's a puppy, the time is even less (due to small bladders). Ideally a dog should never be alone 4+ hours.

Once your dog gets more responsible through training you can let them free roam the house when you're a way. Teach them not to chew on things and give them toys/chews so they have something to do and won't even need to chew on household items or furniture.

Halti is science based, family friendly tool in your opinion? That's a tool that should not be used especially on puppies and young dogs because it causes pain. Anyone is now calling any type of dog training, science based. I am pretty sure, science, does not suggests using tools but methods.

I don’t agree with crate training because the den is not a natural place for the dog. Dogs don’t need training to live in a den. Teach the dog that your home is a den, they do not need to live in a cage. The only time a dog should be crated is when it’s safety is in jeopardy such as life-threatening emergencies, vet checks etc. we never can find children except for in emergency situations, so please don’t can find the dog for the very same reason.

Of course using the crate for exessive periods of time is never good for you dog, unless for emergencies. But when they've just be brought home to a foreign place and they need to find a safe place to process, a crate is good outlet, because that's what a crate should be, a safe place, not a cage. Use them or not, just remember that crate training isn't the same as locking up your dog, it can actually help them overcome Seperation anxiety, Isolation distress, Boredom, etc.. when used right of course.
