Bringing an "Aggressive" Rescue Dog to the Vet for the First Time

Finn was given up by his previous family for being "aggressive" so as part of his evaluation we brought him to the vet to see how he reacted to a new strange environment. We also wanted to see how he would react to basic handling.
He was muzzled for safety reasons, and while he did react to touching his ear infection he did not display what we could consider aggression. Let's talk about what true aggression is as compared to normal fear from an unsocialized dog.

It's very scary to think that people mistake fear for aggression and end up putting down their dog for it.

Sadly it’s what happens when people are more concerned about getting a cute thing to be cute than they are about the fact that pets are alive and need to be treated with respect and properly understood and cared for

My corgi is very mean at the vet when it comes to shots etc. I don't know what to do! He loves people but will get very "aggressive"when it comes time to get any treatments. Like the ear swab, m you corgi would've have been able to handle it!

We try to teach all our dogs to accept handling by constantly repeating touching, hugging, etc and then rewarding with treats but only if they stay calm. Unfortunately, training like that doesn’t always work and sometimes you just need to be prepared with a muzzle to make sure no one gets hurt.
