Sea otters are a keystone species whose restoration will promote the growth of kelp and help make Oregon’s marine ecosystem more resilient. A more resilient marine ecosystem will, in turn, help our coastal economy thrive. Learn more about the effort to bring back Oregon's sea otters at www.elakhaalliance.org/.

That is truly alarming & obviously so 😢 sad. TY for educating us, didn't know a lot of this info. I'm such a true animal lover. This makes my heart so sad. I love sea otters so much too.

Otters are one of the only animals that play just for the sake of playing, not necessarily to learn how to hunt, but just to play. They touch the hearts of most that watch them.

Honestly. I love this story. Oregon is so beautiful. Bucket list. It's so different from our beaches in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine. I'm concerned too.

Sea otters are an almost magical animal that touches the heart of most that watch them, and watch them with their babies, and watch how carefully they choose what they eat.

No doubt the lack of sea otters is a problem, but the major seastar die-off from a few years ago also had a major impact on the kelp forest.

Yes, the loss of sunflower sea stars and sea otters (the top predators of urchins) plays a huge role on the overall kelp forest ecosystem health.

Compared to the health of the ecosystem I care very little about the prosperity of commercial fishing.

Very nice documentary. I encourage you to continue in your education efforts. Sure that's driven largely by my love of sea otters but on a grander scale the problem/solution go hand in hand and preserving more than the integrity of the ocean but more so respect for every living creature. Your presentation shows that perfectly. Thank you for caring.

Balance! Commercial fishers can and must be a part of that, with no overharvesting allowed.

I hope they hurry up and implement this. I looked at the full report and the only stakeholders against the project are commercial "invertebrate fisheries" (urchins, dungeness crab, razor clams, etc.) It looks like most stakeholder groups want the otters, including recreational fishers who probably want to see otters too. From the description, it sounds like they can avoid most of the impacts by simply choosing the right location, which could bring millions to the local community. "Gregr et al. (2020) found that the benefits of sea otter recovery to Vancouver Island included 37% more total ecosystem biomass annually with associated increases in the value of finfish landed (>$9.4 million), carbon sequestration (>$2.2 million) and ecotourism (>$42.0 million), which all combined to offset an associated estimated economic loss to invertebrate fisheries (
