So glad you went to the trouble of getting your drone certificate! Your films are wonderful and make many people happy!

I used to watch your channel when I lived in Dorset and now I'm living in Spain. This year the new drone rules start in the EU and the Spanish site is no better at the moment like yours. I have a selection of drones and the new mini 2 will be a much better to fly on holidays but you still have to register as a operator but like you it seems you have to be a resident of the EU. Passed my A1/A3 test, just waiting for my certificate as an operator. With the new rules in the EU, you have to register what ever size or weight drone fitted with a camera. Interesting times with new laws around the world with drones. Many thanks for your video - stay safe :)

I don’t think you have to be resident of the EU. I did A1,A2,A3 in Poland and for all together I have paid 30PLN (£6) including exams.

I am probably among the first to get a permit through the web site. Back then, they hadn't yet invented a license. They just gave me a QR code that I simply printed on waterproof paper and taped it on top of my Mavic Pro. When I have to fly it where there is possibility of trouble, up until now I simply filled a form and applied with my permit number. I must also say that these last 4 years, I haven't flown it.

This is so out of date, basically, unless your drone is under 500gms, don't take it. You have to be a Turkish Resident to register it, so holidaymakers cannot register. Under 500 gms you can bring it in without a problem and fly almost anywhere except for over archaeological areas or historical buildings, only daylight within view of drone flying at no higher than 120 meters and not faster than 50km/h. And not over crowds. Search for 2024 laws as regards drone flying in Turkey,

You have to understand that if you strap a bomb to a drone you have a really destructive weapon in your hands.. It's an issue for every country. You can't really "carry" anything with a 500 gram drone so it's easier to fly it or unless you are flying over some critical structure you can "maybe" get away with it with "I didn't know" excuse. IF you have a large drone and get caught using it without a license you will face a fine. A tourist flying a small drone in the middle of nowhere might(!) get away with a "don't do it again" warning though. My house is next to the Turkish Intelligence Agency main campus, I wouldn't even think about flying a kite nearby.

Thank you for the information Uncle Mick. I live in sydney australia and the laws here are if you operate a drone under 2kg you dont need to be licensed just need to register the drone even if your using it commercially. If your drone is over 2kg you will need to have a license. You cant fly your drone near a airport 5.5km distance and over jails. You also need to stay under 120m height. No flying over a populated crowd beachs etc. Lots of the rules are common sense. I think turkey has to many security concerns.

Amazing video! We're also struggling to understand their laws, it's a nightmare! We found some answers in the FAQ section of the DGCA but not everything is there! I also tried to contact them but we didn't get a response by the moment. In our case we're registered operators in Belgium and we have a DJI mini 3 (so mass < 250 grs). Custom shouldn't be a problem. But what about flying the drone? Do we need a permit? Following their FAQ section that seems to be the case, or are we wrong?
@mickandtrudie

Basically, if you’re in a public place or close to a town, city or beach, you need permission from the local council and or the Turkish civil aviation authorities to fly a drone, however, if it’s a quiet place away from ancient ruins, no one will bother you

Hi Mick! Ken Grubb from Turkey Central here. I live in Antalya. I was surprised to find that drones are freely sold in Turkey. But after I bought one, I looked into the legalities of flying it. From what I learned, if I wanted to fly it, I had to fill out a form at the Antalya governorship explaining why I was flying the drone and exactly when (date and time), and what I was taking videos or photos of. Then the governorship would contact the security directorate to ask approval from them. Then I would have to go back to the governorship to get a letter approving the flight to show to any policemen or local authorities who might challenge me as I was trying to fly it. That applies even if I want to fly the drone five feet in the air and take a single photo of myself. That's different from what you were told apparently, which isn't unusual of course. I just thought I'd share my own experience here. Great suggestion though... buy footage from a drone company that already has permission!

Almost no application to the civil authorities to fly any drone in Turkey gets a permit. So forget it, and fly at your own risk in isolated spots away from people and civilization.

@TREADtheglobe

Hi ZT we don't need any license to fly a drone under 500g - That's why we have a small DJI spark which is 350g so no permission, registration or licence needed. We do have to be careful to only fly in permitted areas. The Turkish Aviation site has a map showing you permitted areas. You will need a Turkish ID to be able to access the map. Hope that helps - Chris

You might remember incidents with drones which caused shutdown of flight operations in London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports in 2019. I therefore strongly support these restrictions instead of allowing everyone to fly their drones.
@drybiscuit

There were no drones at Gatwick airport. The whole thing was a hoax. Despite, reporters, and TV crews with Ultra high definition cameras being camped out at the airport and thousands of people with mobile phones all over the property all equipped with cameras. Not one single photograph was captured of the mystery drone. A little strange don’t you think?

@@drybiscuit Gatwick might possibly be a hoax (although there is no official statement accordingly in the press) but it is not the sole incident worldwide. Similar events occurred in Heathrow, Milano, São Paolo as well as in Sydney. I don’t wish to be in a plane during takeoff or landing when drones flown by individuals like you are around !! By the way, we are not talking about UAVs or UCAVs but just small commercial drones, which are, of course, “unmanned”.
@drybiscuit

@@onentogar7385 You clearly know nothing about drones. All drones are UAV's which stands for unmanned aerial vehicle, and you know nothing about me but have formed an opinion based on nothing. Like your opinion against drones. Based on nothing. I operate a fleet of UAV's commercially and hold PfCO and A2CofC from the UK CAA. If you knew or bothered to research the subject you would know that there are articles online regarding the hoax at Gatwick. Additionally, you would also know about GPS ring fencing as well as the fact that it would be virtually impossible for a small off the shelf UAV to bring down a commercial aircraft. Stop eating up the total crap that comes out of mainstream media.

Hmm. Interesting. Did not hear about getting a license. I have a mavic air and a Phantom 3. Got the phantom 3 in 2016. Bought it here. At the time all I saw on the website was the weight limit and having to register it. Never heard of a license. I logged in..... been a few years..... I see my register drone. I dont see any thing about a license. I know ,in the states, you need a license to film for profit. Called a Part 103. Are you confusing commercial flying with recreational flying?

I do admit that views taken by drones are fantastic. However,I do agree with any government around the world that there must be restrictions otherwise they can be used by some unsavoury individuals for many reasons and at times to spy on your backyard and thus losing your privacy,which has happened here in Sydney Aust.and that didn’t end up well.
