Bringing Home Our 13 Week Old Siamese Kitten | Peaceful First Week

This video is a personal one, documenting our first week with our 'old style' Siamese kitten. He was 13 weeks old when we brought him home, and he's a chocolate point.
I have paused comments because the video has been pushed to a much larger audience than I anticipated it would when I first published it. Almost all of the comments I have received have been kind and lovely, but as the video gets pushed further and further by the algorithm, I'm receiving an increasing number of rude and unpleasant comments. It goes with the territory of a popular video, I see it all the time in the comments sections of the sweetest animal or family videos across all social platforms. Most of the time negativity doesn't bother me and I'm always open to balanced, rational, polite and constructive criticism. That said, because this video is more personal than my others, not part of my regular video schedule, and some comments have been so unwarranted, I've just decided to opt out so that I don't have to moderate hurtful comments. I don't want to delete or make the video private because I know that many of you have enjoyed it so it seems a shame to take it down.
To the vast majority of my lovely viewers who have just stumbled upon this video because you're welcoming a new kitten, or a Siamese cat, I hope you have a wonderful time getting to know them and enjoy many happy years together. From one cat lover and servant to another, I wish you all the best.

Acclimating to a new environment/home is a time of trepidation but slowly and surely the new adoptee will settle in at its own time and pace. Gustave has the trademark chattiness of a Siamese and he sure has a lot to complain about. The big pointy ears and the brown shaded nose are just adorable. Lucky cat, lucky you.

thank you! Ahh that's so exciting, I bet you can't wait to meet your new friend! Oriental shorthairs are very similar in personality to Siamese I think? Chatty little cats who want to be doing whatever their humans are doing!

@@EighteenandCloudy yes!! i think they came from the siamese originally. ;o; so i was looking for videos on siamese cats. :) it's my first cat/kitten ever! so i'm pretty nervous haha. gustave looks so sweet ^_^

@@chrchie I understand the nervousness, but I am sure that you'll settle in very quickly. Hopefully the breeder or shelter you pick your kitten up from will be able to give you some good advice that's specific to your kitten and within a week or so of having him or her home you'll be feeling confident. Make sure to get lots of sleep before they move in haha!

Thank you so much Jessie! The only toys I bought for Gustave were a set of ping-pong balls. They're great if you have hard floors of some sort, because they bounce and skid and are great fun for a cat or kitten to play with as they're so unpredictable. Other toys were all homemade from waste materials. He loved playing with scrunched up parchment paper and tissue paper when he was tiny. Packaging from parcels - cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, paper padding, they were all popular too and still are! His favourite toy is string. I cut a length of string and tied it to a wooden baton and he loves having that dangled and dragged around for him. It is good if they have some kind of kick toy to release their aggression with. You could buy a simple soft kick toy, or they're very easy to make with an old sock stuffed with paper or scrap fabric. I made one with scrap fabric. I hope that helps!

Thank you so much! It's such an exciting time bringing home a cat or dog, I bet you can't wait! I was counting down the days to Gustave like a child counts down the days to Christmas. We've only had him three months, yet I look back on these early days in midwinter with such fondness and nostalgia as he's growing up so quickly.

I’ve owned Siamese all my life. After Lola passed away this year we went for a Sphynx and he’s now 5 months old. 🎉 By the way, are you sure he’s a Chocolate point? He looks like a blue point. But then again his young age isn’t always telling. 😊

Siamese are such characters, and I've read Sphynx are too! He was very fair as a kitten but as an adult his colouring is much darker and he looks like a chocolate point now. His mum is a chocolate tortie point, dad is a seal point.

Loved your video of Gustave; it reminds me of our late Siamese Sarah who lived to be 19. She also vocalized while eating to show her enjoyment of the food. I'm hoping to soon find another Siamese kitty to fill the void left by Sarah's passing. God Bless you and a long and healthy life for Gustave. 😺❤

Thank you Joe. I'm sorry to hear you have been grieving for your lovely Sarah, and I hope that in time you find another Siamese cat to love and be loved by. The grief I experienced after my beloved Siamese cat called Minou died in early 2021 aged 17 made me question whether I could go through that all over again, it took time before I was ready to. I am so glad that we brought Gustave home with us last December, he is such a sweet and loving cat and makes us laugh daily at his antics!

I'm not a young man any more, and I have had Siamese singly or in multiples since I was five years old. This little guy is magnificent - it seemed as if he knew his name from the fist time you called him. Please give us an update - he'll be a little over a year now. Thank you so much! Siamese cats really do have such unique personalities. I love all cats, but Siamese are just so loyal, and such wonderful companions. Gustave turns two this week, it's gone incredibly fast, yet he's still really playful and kitten like in many ways! He features in some of my other videos, perhaps not directly, but he likes to make physical as well as unscripted vocal appearances! I will see if I can make a dedicated update video about our life with him!
