Good video as always. Just a word about airlines. We are weeks away from our flight to Thailand with our cat. Qatar airlines (and several other airlines that fly to Thailand) do not allow dogs or cats to fly in the cabin, they have to go in the cargo hold. We didn’t want our cat down there for such a long flight. We found Korean based Asiana Air that allows dogs and cats (provided they are of a certain size and weight) to fly in the cabin. Hope this helps someone.

Yes, I just read that today, I’m glad as I prefer Korean air. Each airline is different and Korean air allows pets under 15 lbs or 7kg total weight w/carrier to fly in cabin.

@@mindiesevarns5223 Hi…yes we had a layover in Seoul Korea. They had different paperwork than what Thailand wanted. However, the good thing was, that if you are just transitioning (layover but you don’t leave the secured area of the airport) then you are not “entering l” Korea. That said we did. It need to conform to the standards in South Korea so we just had our paperwork in order for Thailand. It was very hassle free, we had no problems at all. Hope this helps, cheers

We flew into Bangkok on Qatar Airways. When we moved here it was a few years ago and we had to quarantine in a hotel for 16 days in Bangkok. After that, we hired a van to bring us and the dogs up to Chiang Mai. It made more sense because we had a lot of luggage and the dogs. If you go back to our second video that we ever did, it will give the details of the company that we used so you can see that. Safe travels to Thailand! 🙏🏻🇹🇭😊

Every time we've been to Thailand, we've rented a truck from a friend of ours in Chiang Mai and we're doing it again this time. I'm going to hit him up and see if he wants to meet us in BKK to deliver the truck to us and then I'll send him back by plane at my expense. If that fails, we'll probably hire a van like you did. I'm so glad you had a positive experience with Qatar Airways but I feel obligated to share mine so people can be warned. When I moved my cat with me from Indonesia back to the States, I had an absolutely horrific experience with them. I had spoken to them at least 20 times over the phone to prepare for our trip back to the US, and had used every possible measure to confirm that she was booked for the same flight as me since she had to be in cargo rather than the cabin with me. So I flew from Bali to Jakarta (all animals have to exit the country through Jakarta), and when I arrived to check-in for our big flight from Jakarta to the US, they suddenly told me they could not take her on that flight because they didn't have enough room in cargo. Keep in mind, I had called nearly everyday for weeks leading up to this flight to confirm that she was booked and ready to go. But last minute they canceled her booking and pressured me to get on the plane while they sent her on another flight two days later. WHAT?! I told them absolutely no way, I would not leave her behind. So they also had to rebook my flight for two days later. We were stranded in Jakarta for two days, I had to look for a hotel in the middle of the night (because our flight was scheduled to leave around midnight and I went back and forth with them for HOURS), of course most hotel receptions were already closed for the night and so it took hours to find a room. She had to stay with me inside of this hotel for two days and I had to take her on a leash outside to use the bathroom because I didn't have a litterbox, the whole time I'm terrified she would run away because she was not used to city traffic/noise. It was the most horrific and traumatizing experience for us both. Once we finally got on the plane two days later, I felt some relief, only to land in Chicago and see that she was completely covered in her own feces and urine, and had not been fed or watered during the entire 30+ hour flight/layover. The worst part of all this is they never showed an ounce of concern, empathy or compassion during this whole process and gave me attitude and annoyed stares during every bit of communication during this whole fiasco. And when I reached out to them through email after I got home, I didn't even get a response or any kind of acknowledgement, much less any kind of compensation for our troubles (the extra cost of hotels/transportation/rebooking flights/etc). Again, I'm so glad you had a better experience as I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone! I am now planning to move my dog to Thailand (my sweet kitty passed about a year ago) and came across this video, and you're right on the surface Qatar Airways seems like the only feasible option to take my dog but I am absolutely TERRIFIED of booking with them again. 😓

Forgot to mention, I had to carry 200+ pounds of luggage BY MYSELF in and out of the airport multiple times, up to the top floor of this hotel, etc. because of everything being rebooked. No one in the airport or Qatar staff offered to help even with that part. So mindblowing.

We are moving the end of Aug or beginning of Sep and we are taking Quatar airways also thanks to your video when you both first arrived about 2 years ago. The piece of mind Quatar airways gives for pets. I called them and talked to them about their climate controlled area for pets in the layover in Doha. And that made me feel better too. But you mentioned someone also checks the pets during the flight? That would be amazing. When we leave the house we are practicing with our pets when they stay at home and turn on the sound of a large airplane to get them used to the sound! Lol

If you can find an airline that will allow the dogs and the layover isn't too long, then that would probably be the easiest way to go. We had to quarantine in Bangkok when we arrived because this was in early 2021 so we had no choice but to stay there for 16 days so then after our quarantine we hired a van to drive us from BKK to Chiang Mai because we did have SO much luggage and the dogs that it would have been really expensive to fly...plus at that time I'm not sure if any airlines were allowing dogs to fly domestically. I still shake my head when people take their pets with them overseas and act surprised when they encounter issues or additional ongoing expenses. My opinion, is don't take them. There are plenty of needy animals in the destination country. Also provides a better chance to get a pet that is acclimated and will have all the local shots.

But if you have a loved pet in you home country are you to leave them and then they become a rescue? Agree there are plenty of needy animals but that does not negate the pets you already have. We can always rescue another when we arrive in our new home :)
